May 24, 2021 -
here is my code
Scanner read = new Scanner(System.in);
System.out.println("Write a value ");
int value = Integer.valueOf(read.nextLine());
System.out.println("You wrote " +value);so when I wrote this code on Intellij it is telling me to change "valueOf" into "parseInt".
But on Netbeans, it is working fine. Can somebody tell me why?

IntelliJ is trying to optimize your code by giving warnings. You can use both valueOf and parseInt. However they are fundamentally different. ValueOf returns a new Integer (object wrapper) while parseInt returns an int (primitive type). Since you write the value into an int variable Java has to unbox the Integer returned by valueOf immediately. So you create an object on the heap just to instantly discard it for the primitive value, whereas you could just use parseInt to get the primitive value directly. The compiler might optimize this anyways but IntelliJ just wants to make you aware of this. Here are the docs for the Integer class.
