I just got a gaming laptop and Minecraft Java (bought Java while it was on sale), what are some good mods to get? I mean things like optimization mods mostly, but also some other ones. I’m also not sure how to get or use mods.

You get mods from Modrinth (or CurseForge, if Modrinth doesn’t have the mod you want). They also have an app you can download that helps you install them. Alternatively, you can use Prism Launcher which can install mods from both websites. Keep in mind that mods will always need to be made specifically for the version of Minecraft you’re playing (so a 1.20.6 mod will not work on 1.21) and that there are multiple modloaders (Forge, Fabric and NeoForge) which you cannot mix and match – so if you have Fabric mods, you cannot add any Forge or NeoForge mods to it. If you want to play on modern versions of Minecraft, I recommend always going with Fabric mods.
