Missing Java Icon in Control Panel
If you find/found the .cpl file in the Java folder, you can copy and paste it into the c:\window\system32 folder. When you run Control Panel, it looks there to see what .cpl files are out there and if they make sense, they will show up in the COntrol Panel list. A new entry may show up in the very botton of the list though, so if your CP list is more than will appear without scrolling to the very bottom you might not ... More on learn.microsoft.com

Update tab missing from Java Control Panel Version 8 Update 11 64-bit Solved - Windows 10 Forums
October 30, 2016 - Hi Guys, This one has been bugging me for the past few updates for Java Version 8 - the "Update" tab is missing for the Java Control Panel program. This was (apparently) a bug in earlier version, but is supposedly fixed. I'm running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit and have had this issue with at least the last three updates to the Java JRE Version 8 64-bit.

r/javahelp on Reddit: Can't find Java control panel
June 4, 2022 -

When I go to the control panel, I click programs and when I click Java, it says application not found. Please help. the reason I wanted it was because I needed to update my java version and when I go to the command prompt and run java --version , it shows the un-changed version from before I downloaded it from the Oracle website. I don't really know anything about this stuff and it really confuses me. I could open it before this happened too, and I did the JAVA_HOME thing but it didn't seem to do anything. When I went to open the panel again, it gave me the error.

You said you did the JAVA_HOME thing, what exactly did you do?

r/techsupport on Reddit: Java is not appearing but confirmed presence on device
February 24, 2025 -

I'm trying to open an .jar file on my windows 10. I have confirmed using the command console that I do have Java on my device (using >java version, which results in displaying which version of java is on my computer)

The issue is if I am opening a .jar file selecting "open with..." Java is not appearing, nor can I find the application. I've tried to use control panel-associate file type with the Java app but once again, Java is not appearing as an option. If I am browsing through my files, I can find under this path c:/programfiles/Java/jre1.8.0_441 which has a bunch of miscellaneous files I don't really know much about, but I can't actually find the Java application.

Maybe I need to reinstall Java? I'm missing something and am not tech savy enough to deduce where to look or what actions to take. Assistance would be appreciated thank you!
