August 17, 2024Just finished the BBC Pride and Prejudice series with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth, and I loved it 😍 But tbh, I think Mr. Darcy in the 2005 film was better at expressing how flustered and "ardently in love" he was with Elizabeth. Not to mention the rain scene and the hand scene 🖐👊

I'm so excited to for Jennifer Ehle as Gabriella, but I don't actually know her work that well outside of P&P and I'm super curious -- does anyone have any films/TV shows that you recommend where she is in the cast? (I know she's done a lot of theater, but unfortunately that's ephemeral :/)
ETA: Thank you for all the great recs! I know you can technically IMBD this stuff, but you never know if it's a bit part, or whether the show/movie is worth watching in general. So it's really lovely to hear from real people and what stood out to you. Sounds like she's pretty prolific, it's a wonder I haven't run across her in anything yet....

The only thing I've ever actually seen her in was the miniseries version of Dead Ringers starring Rachel Weisz so it feels a little cheaty to recommend but it's a fantastic show anyway. If you've ever lamented that Hollywood doesn't let female characters be deeply unhinged, this is the show for you.

I honestly went into watching it blind. I thought I would see a love story between Jennifer Ehle and Toby Stephens (Lizzie Bennet and Mr. Rochester... why not?) and I was met with a parade of obnoxious characters. I didn’t empathize with any of the characters, nor root for any of them, I wasn’t on anyone's side. They're all horrible people with a screwed up moral compass.
I love Jennifer Ehle because her character is the most hateable of them all. Excellent actress

Ah, where my love for Toby Stephen’s was born. I loved it but I watched this when it came out so this was pre Pride &Prejudice and 2006 Jane Eyre. I can see if one expects something like that they might be very disappointed 🙂
