Jurassic Park III is nowhere near as bad as people say it is and though it may not come close to the greatness of Jurassic Park 1, it is MILES ahead better than any of the Jurassic World trilogy
Could Jurassic Park III have been so much more or was there really no better way to evolve the story from the previous movies/books?
Why Do People Like ‘Jurassic Park III’ (so much)?
Jurassic Park 3 - The Forgotten Rebranding
Yeah it isn't perfect, but hell we get an incredible fight scene between the Spino and Rex not even an hour into the movie, while in World you get pretty much the same fight scene at the END of the movie AND on top of that the whole fight gets cockblocked by the Mosasaurus in the end anyway, and in the most unsatisfying way possible. I know it's like 2024 like why tf am I talking about a threequal thats 20 years old, but I've just been on a Jurassic Park binge lately and it's just hitting me how much better III is over any of the World movies, yet it's rated like a 5/10 across the board, while all the World Movies are rated like 6.5-7/10 it just boggles my mind, they're all trash compared to 1 and 3. Lost world is good, but it's also a mixed bag it has some of my favorite scenes and some of my least favorite in the whole series.
Hi.
Hope you’re doing well.
I recently revisited the third movie and it’s a reasonably serviceable film (all things considered) and it’s fun at times, but a few things always stand out to me:
1. It doesn’t really set anything up for future movies or really advance anything from the previous movies. Jurassic Park didn’t set a ton up either,, but there were still potential threads for sequels.
2. The justification for Grant going to the island was lazy and really seemed quite dumb. Wasn’t the worst possible reason (as the Kirbys offered to fund his research, giving him some motivation), but it still lacked believability
3. They just essentially threw in stuff that they couldn’t fit in the previous movies (from the books) and just about managed to get 92 minutes of material out of it.
It is the only movie from either franchise that feels barebones and (with it brings it some charm and uniqueness) I wonder, could more have logically been done with it that could’ve gotten more out of the whole thing?
I mean, Spielberg essentially got bored of doing these movies and kind of regretted doing The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III had two soon-to-be Academy Award-winning screenwriters, so it’s weird that this was the extent of their work and Universal/Amblin’s resources.
As I said, it’s always been good entertainment for 90 minutes, but could it have been more?
How do you view JP3? Was it wasted potential, or about as good as it could have been, or did it actually punch above its weight?
