Jurassic World Dominion
Intense dino installment focuses on human relationships. Read Common Sense Media's Jurassic World Dominion review, age rating, and parents guide. This franchise installment is saved by the original trio of actors who made the original Jurassic Park memorable. Dern, Neill, and Goldblum add much-needed heft to "Jurassic World Dominion" as characters who are committed to saving the world. That puts them in contrast to Owen and Claire, who are on an extremely personal mission to rescue their daughter from a profit-seeking corporation. The dinosaurs are less impressive this time around, with famili

Jurassic World Dominion: Review
I 100% disagree on Ellie Sattler, I think she was portrayed well, and in accordance with her characters growth from 1 to Dominion. She has grown up, she was young in JP 1 and basically in love with her mentor, whereas by the time Dominion rolls around, she is a matured well versed woman, she has had kids, a divorce, almost been killed once, almost lost her close friend twice and now going to be 3 times. She's dealing heavily with her group on the ecological disaster, but still through it all she has hope, and is genuinely excited to see dinosaurs despite the trauma she experienced. That is growth, absolute great performance. Also, her scene mirroring the bunker in 1 with the power room in dominion shows she isn't afraid to step up still when the going gets tough. "If I had a kid who loved dinosaurs and who I hated, I would take them to see Jurassic World Dominion, because it makes dinosaurs so deeply uncool." Wow, that's pretty harsh. This movie sounds like a dumpster fire. More on reddit.com

r/JurassicPark on Reddit: Jurassic World Dominion: Review
June 16, 2022 -

TLDR warning, if you don’t want to read my mammoth of a review, here’s the quick summary. 8.2/10, enjoyed myself very much watching this movie. Some scenes went on too long while some were too short, overall solid addition to the Jurassic park franchise, and it ranks 3rd out of the 6 movies, squeezing in between TLW at 2, and Jurassic world at 4.

Now, let’s get into the meaty stuff.

First off, my overall thoughts. The movie was relatively well paced, the 1st act was very janky, but with the cutting of the prologue, and other scenes, I can see it being much more smooth and coherent if those scenes are added in the extended edition that’s been hinted. The 2nd and 3rd acts were honestly pretty great, the settings were beautiful, the cinematography was on point with any other major blockbuster, and the CGI for the dinosaurs was still top notch, with some scenes however looking a little off. Most of the new Characters were great, the Dinosaur action was solid (when it was there), and the overall ending of the franchise (presumably) is decent, could have been much much worse.

I’ll go in depth firstly about each major character, and secondary characters to a lesser degree, this will include certain dinosaurs.

Owen Grady: Honestly, this may have been Chris Pratts best acting in the series so far, but the dialogue for him compared to Jurassic world was definitely a downgrade. His moment with Claire while the plane was on course to crash was really well done, you could sense true worry and care for Claire and that she needed to be the one to save Massie if only one of them could. His action stunts were also pretty good, no complaints there. Overall, not a bad movie for him, but his character had a lot more potential and was wasted, mostly in Fallen Kingdom.

Claire Dearing: a slower movie for Claire character growth wise compared to Fallen Kingdom, but was still an overall good character. Her scenes with Massie felt genuine and real, like a mother who has no experience trying to care for a child who is very special and needs protection. Her scenes with Owen were good, and a solid female lead in the trilogy. However, her character definitely had more potential.

Alan Grant: He’s back, and honestly he feels no different than any of his previous roles in the series. Sam Neil is an incredible actor and all his scenes were great, a true embodiment of an awkward and lonely palaeontologist who takes that step forward out of his comfort zone and finally does what he should have done 30+ years ago, show his feelings to the woman he loves. Great actor, great character, no complaints.

Ellie Sadler: Ellie was.. the most disappointing original character to come back. Not to say she wasn’t good, she was overall pretty solid, but her character seems a bit off. She’s not as spunk or rebellious as her JP incarnation, and takes a step back almost in comparison to Claire. Which in of itself isn’t a bad thing, this is Claire’s trilogy, Ellie shouldn’t take away from the spotlight, but maybe it would have been good if she did just a little? Definitely could have been used more effectively.

Ian Malcolm: What’s there to say, he’s great. His snarky remarks, amazing sarcasm, and his beliefs are still very much in touch in this movie. Similar to Alan, no real complaints from me, probably could have had slightly more screen time? That’s about it though. His scene with the giga was hilariously dumb but awesome, glad he got his comeback compared to his similar scenes in JP.

Massie Lockwood: Honestly, definitely the biggest improvement in acting and character development from Fallen Kingdom to Dominion. Her development from hidden away girl to strong willed and independent young Woman was a good route for her character. She takes after Owen a lot, and her connection with Beta is similar to Blue and Owens, a future Raptor/Human pairing. She’s snarky, doesn’t get pushed around, and isn’t immature and dumb in her decision making. Overall great improvement over a pretty poor character in FK.

Lewis Dodgeson: This is a hard character to rate. Firstly, he’s a pretty grounded “villain”. He’s not some super evil scummy military officer or evil company, just a man willing to do anything to get what he wants and to control all he can. His character in the movie is odd, he’s sketchy, skiddish, not all that intimidating, which highlights that he’s not some crazy super villain, just a businessman breaking the law to achieve his goals. He’s blinded by his greed, and makes poor decisions that causes his downfall, which isn’t a bad thing. He’s a character that could have use a lot more growth throughout multiple movies, but for a single appearance (Major one anyway) in a film his character wasn’t all that bad. I’ll save the locusts for another talking point.

Now, we move to the secondary characters/Dinosaurs that were relevant. I won’t go through all the Dinosaurs and animals in the film, more the ones who stood out/failed to have a bigger impact like they should have.

My sentiments are mostly similar to yours. I liked the film, but definitely thought it should’ve been better in quite a few ways. Especially after the same director was at the helm for Jurassic World which is my 1A to Jurassic Park. I’m in the minority in that I loved the beginning 20-30 minutes of the movie and thought it worked better than the end did. The lack of Prologue/Drive In scene was janky and I can’t for the life of me figure out why they took that out. Dumb move because what they replaced it with sucked, but after that it was genuinely great. The family dynamic between the three of them (I mean I really felt like it was all genuine and great to see after they reused the will they won’t they bs again in FK), blue and beta staying close by and Maisie going to town was all exactly how I wanted it. I’m also in the minority in that I liked the locust plot. It’s 100% a thing Crichton would’ve done if he kept writing books in the series as JP isn’t reallllly all about dinosaurs, they’ve always been the window dressing to the real narrative, so it was actually nicer to me that they expanded past that even though, yes, the dinosaurs are why most of us are here. It was a tad clunky at times, but I generally liked all of that too. My only real major complaint comes down to it being jankily edited I think. Just weird choices. I’ve only seen it once so far, so I’m sure I’ll sure up my opinion more on rewatches, but this feels like it was chopped down in a lot of the wrong places and extended in other ones. There were weird choices for original theme music placement that didn’t hit. The Giga was barely in the film and was acting more like a regular Apex predator than a bloodthirsty monster (which is actually good!). There just wasn’t enough of it to justify killing it so brutally. They realllly should’ve kept the prologue in. No reason not to. Accurate science be damned about those predators never meeting up in real life, they chose this dinosaur and they should’ve kept the prologue edited in directly at the beginning of the film. Such a stupid decision. Barry being in the movie. Awesome. Was one of my favorite characters in the series and was so happy to have him back even if it was just for a short stint. The critics be damned. This isn’t a perfect film and I probably place it in my lower half of the 6, but a 30% it certainly does not deserve. If JP/// can get that much higher than this (considering I didn’t even acknowledge that films existence for 15 years), the critics clearly aren’t worth paying attention to. Really should’ve been closer to high 50s mid 60s, but gang mentality, ya know? At least the audience score is nice. Overall, it’s a poorly edited film with some script issues, but the family dynamic, attention to certain lore detail, going for a unique plot, addition of characters from previous films (Grant and Ellie ending up together was good too), ect makes me still welcome this film into the franchise. I will watch it a lot and probably enjoy it more on subsequent viewings. 6.8/10 First viewing (poor editing, weird taking out the prologue/drive in scene, strange choices with script “what’s your story?” but great action, character development, risky but interesting and worthwhile plot device)

Jurassic World: Dominion (2022) - User reviews - IMDb
Especially after Fallen Kingdom left us with such an exciting cliffhanger, the chaos that awaits the people of the world when dinosaurs are unleashed upon them. That's not at all what we get. I loved the first Jurassic World. And while the second is highly flawed, it's still entertaining and filled with tension and suspense. I felt none of that with Dominion.

Jurassic World: Dominion
Goldblum, who reprises his role in “Dominion” alongside fellow original cast members Sam Neill and Laura Dern, turned his “Lost World” performance into a wry-yet-cranky meta-commentary on corporate capitalism. For that matter, there’s nothing in this new film as good as the best parts of “Jurassic ... June 10, 2022 - When “Dominion’s” final 20 minutes play as a beat-for-beat re-creation of previous films’ set pieces, it becomes clear that Trevorrow and Co. have nothing new to say. ... Jurassic World: Dominion is at best distracted, at worst boring. Playing on the nostalgic return of key heroes and frantically attempting Spielbergian wonder, it wants you to believe it’s got a back-to-basics understanding of Jurassic Park.

June 9, 2022 - Despite Jurassic World Dominion beginning from that scene, and looking poised to make good on a cliffhanger screenwriters Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly set up four years ago in Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom, where the not-so-gentle giants finally made it to the mainland, the sixth entry in the Jurassic franchise isn’t all that concerned about exploring the horror or joy of dinosaurs in our world.

Jurassic World Dominion review – prehistory repeats itself | Action and adventure films | The Guardian
June 12, 2022 - When Dr Malcolm opines “Jurassic World? I wasn’t a fan”, the audience’s meta-chuckle isn’t entirely ironic. It doesn’t help that Dominion spends a good deal of time trying to figure out what story to tell and which genre (or country) to tell it in.
