I was one of the lucky ones who got a board that wasn’t plagued by the factory issues many had. I’ve been using mine for about a month now and I love it. Keep it on either the 2.4 ghz connection or cabled, and never noticed any latency issues. In my opinion, the switches sound amazing.. definitely something different than what I’m used to. Somewhat quieter and more thocky. Typing on it is a dream, I bring it to work because I prefer it to the K10 I have there. When I’m gaming on it at home, it works wonderfully. I haven’t dabbled too much in messing around in the launcher with configurations, right out of the box it does exactly what I was looking for. Answer from Dougzillahhh on reddit.com

r/Keychron on Reddit: K2 HE won't connect to Keychron Launcher
April 18, 2025 -

Edit: Solved

I just received a brand new Keychron K2 HE this afternoon. I'm very much not a fan of the DEL and RGB toggle placement and would like to swap them. In addition, I would like to be able to play with all of the fancy features of this board. Unfortunately, I cannot get Keychron Launcher to connect to this board. I've unplugged the 2.4ghz dongle and have plugged the keyboard in with a cable and set the switch to cable on the side. I've tried multiple usb ports and multiple browsers (Edge, Chrome, and Brave which is what I normally use) and none of that makes a difference. When I start Keychron Launcher and hit connect, the box shows my K2 HE, but when I hit connect it just loads infinitely. I have a friend who just built a PC who I told to buy this keyboard as well and he has the same exact issue. I've updated the firmware to the latest version and still have this issue too. Any suggestions? What am I doing wrong

Edit: Solved

Hey guys,

I recently picked up my first ever mechanical keyboard and decided to go with the Keychron K2. Despite haters online saying that these keyboards aren't worth the buy. I am extremely happy with my decision and have had just the best time using this keyboard for this past week.

After using it for a while, I am looking to use the Keychron Launcher to customize the functionality of the board further and have had a lot of problems.

The site does not recognize my keyboard when plugging it in directly to my computer and making sure the keyboard is in cable mode.

I have tried all of the fixes I have seen online (browser permissions, etc.) but have been unable to find a fix. Is my keyboard not compatible with the website? Am I missing something stupid?

Any help or guidance would be much appreciated!

Hi. Just got my k2 he and I can’t connect to the web app on 2.4ghz mode.

When I attempt it, it says keyboard firmware not support wireless. So I connected it via cable and updated the firmware and tried again on 2.4ghz, still the same sadly.

Anyone have the same issues or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks in advance for any input :)

I’ve been using the Keychron K2 HE for a few months now and wanted to share some thoughts on it, especially since it’s one of the more unique boards out there with magnetic Hall Effect switches, adjustable actuation, and pressure sensitivity (even if nothing really takes advantage of that yet).

As someone who cares a lot about design and function, this board really caught my eye. I ended up making a short video review breaking down the build quality, typing feel, the Keychron Launcher software, and whether the magnetic switches actually make a difference in daily use.

If you’re curious about what it’s like to actually live with this keyboard, here’s the video:

Happy to answer any questions about it if you’re considering it or already own one! I would love to get your feedback on the video too :)

r/Keychron on Reddit: Keychron K2 HE & the state of analogue keyboard gaming support
December 21, 2024 -

I start this topic for two main reasons: On one hand to share my impression of this particular feature of hall effect keyboards, the analogue input and to look for some advice, tipps & tricks, workarounds from the community, as I'm completely new to this and I reckon many of you are not. :)

Yesterday I received my Keychron K2 HE. I don't wanna waste your time with general impressions, just this: I haven't been much into "premium" mechanical keyboards before that, just used a Logitech mecha. This one feels so much better in comparison and I'm going to keep it.

One of the main reasons I supported the Kickstarter for this keyboard was the idea of analogue gaming. A longstanding problem for me in many games was the question: Does it have a walk button? But if the keyboard itself can emulate a gamepad, I wouldn't need one.

Spoiler: It's a mixed bag.

First the basics. You'd always need a software layer on top of the keyboard, when you want to use the gamepad function. Like Steam input. Steam recognizes the K2 HE as a game controller regardless whehter your current mode has gamepad emulation enabled or not. You then have to initialize and configure it with Steam input, pressing buttons analog to gamepad inputs. If you're finished, Steam can then translate the set keyboard buttons as generic game controller input into games that support it.

I made a basic tutorial with pictures HERE

And this is the main divider: The support. Because some do, some don't. With some shades of grey inbetween.

Basically there are two types of games:

The ones that support any kind of input, even simutaneously, without a hickup. And those which do not. Among the first category are generally games who have native multi axis supports like flightsims, or games like Mech Warrior 5 Clans. For any other game it's a case by case situation and has to be tested.

To show these "shades of grey" here are some specific examples I tested, as even games who fall into the first category can have problems of their own:

  • Indiana Jones & The Great Circle - FULLY COMPATIBLE (through Steam Input); no stopping of input or hitching of graphics, even when combining Frame Generation with a fps limit

  • Cyberpunk 2077 - FULLY COMPATIBLE (through Steam Input)

  • Star Wars Outlaws - COMPATIBLE, but technical hickups; if you combine Frame Generation with a fps Limit (and I know this is generally not a good ide, but it works normally in this game) and then combine the two inputs - Mouse for looking, K2 HE for emulating a generic gamepad - frametimes go wild. Only without a fps limit does it work. I suspect this is down to how Nvidia Reflex handles different types of input.

  • Dead Space Remake - COMPATIBLE, but issues with the controls. The game always sees the K2 HE as a controller and when I first booted into the game I was constantly ADS and some actions like kicking happened at random; workaround is to erase all controller inputs you don't have mapped to the keyboard from the ingame menu and only leave those you need. For instance I only mapped left stick controlls to the K2 HE. But even still with this workaround the camera can jump when you walk to the side while also aiming.

  • Horizon Forbidden West - NOT COMPATIBLE; like at all! The game has a hard cut between controller input and mouse/keyboard input. When I walk using gamepad emulation with the K2 HE and move the mouse, Aloy stops dead. Not working.

  • Warhammer 40.000 Space Marine 2 - NOT COMPATIBLE; the game supports brand controllers by default - DualSense, Xbox Controller - but does not work with Steam Input at all. You'd have to disable it when you want to use a brand controller. Thus a generic controller or amulation of such through Steam Input is not supported

So, to sum things up, the one feature I was most looking forward to is a bit of a let down. But this also the reason, like mentioned initially, why I started this topic.

If you know any tipps & tricks, workarounds, please let me know. I guess Steam Input is not the only software layer I could wrap around the generic gamepad the K2 HE is emulating, so maybe this could solve some of the problems. Maybe it is possible to emulate an Xbox controller or a DS4? Of course I tried DS4Windows, but it does not recognize the K2 HE.

Within the configuration software (via browser) for the K2 HE there is a peculiar setting:

https://i.imgur.com/NC9KBS7.jpg

"Xbox". Natuarally I enabled it, hoping it would present either DS4Windows or Steam Input an emulated Xbox controller, but it just doesn't. It seems to do nothing and not work at all, unless I missed something.

So...what are your impressions of this glorious new keyboard analogue gaming world we're living in? :D

Thanks for making this post, although I cannot add much useful information. Just received my keyboard yesterday and having not much of a clue of the technological side of analog controller emulation I somehow expected it to just work out of the box regardless of what game you play. So I've spent a few hours messing around in the web app and watching youtube videos to see if I have missed anything because I couldn't get it to work. There is also little to no information apart from it being listed as a feature on the kickstarter page and probably on the official webpage. In the web app there is not a single clue to what the settings are doing. I tried setting it up for Trackmania (Steam), so I mapped RT to W (accelerate) and LT to S (brake/reverse). Somehow they turned out to be the opposite of each other and the S button only registered a quarter press although I pressed it down all the way. Fast forward to today it doesn't work at all. The only other game I tested it on was Black Ops 6 (non-Steam) and it didn't work. At least, after reading your post, I know why. So thanks again for letting me know it wasn't just me.

When it comes to HE keyboards, everything is about the software support. It is entirely asinine to purchase any HE keyboard which doesn't already have solid software support on the chance that it might exist some day. What is even more asinine is that basically no keyboard review will even bother to mention this. (Which shouldn't be surprising, because they are mostly advertisements anyway.)

Hi. I'm looking around for a mechanical keyboard for my Mac, and came across Keychron.

Is the web app the only way to configure these? Personally I'm just curious as to why it's a web app, and not a native app that you can download. I would definitely prefer an actual app, especially if my internet is down for whatever reason. But it's also a personal comfort thing. I suppose I don't like a web app connecting to things outside my browser.

Edit: My primary browser is also Safari, and I'd rather not use a whole other browser just to use Launcher (since Safari doesn't allow device access).

I have a couple of Keychron keyboards that work w/ Launcher but don’t properly connect to VIA. All I’m trying to do is set up a macro that types my ridiculously long network password when I work from home. I successfully connect to Launcher - I go to the macro tab and define M0 to insert text and then I go to keymap and remap the backlight key (upper rightmost key) to M0. The problem is, when I exit it doesn’t work. I’ve tried hitting the key. Fn+key, all kinds of options. There doesn’t seem to be a save button in launcher or a commit button so I’m not sure I’m actually saving the macro to the keyboard, except when I reconnect, the macro and key map show.

What am I missing or doing wrong?

r/Keychron on Reddit: Keychron K2 HE firmware questions
April 5, 2025 -

I'm considering getting a K2 HE and I have some questions regarding the software.

  1. Can I create combos using the Launcher? This is important to me as I use a number of them -- to many to replace using layers.

  2. Am I really limited to only two layers per OS? I can understand that the default configuration only needs two layers but once I want to add my own that is simply not enough.

  3. Can I flash the board with my own version of QMK? This would basically fix the other problems as I can just update everything as I like.

  4. If the K2 HE can't support these requirements, is there another Keychron 60-75% board that can?

Re "I'm pressing ESC while connecting the cable and keyboard goes unresponsive (as it should)?": Yes, it should. You can positively verify flash mode (AKA firmware update mode AKA bootloader mode AKA DFU mode). It also works on Windows (but see the prerequisites below (at least #1 and #2)). Prerequisites on Windows It is required to install some drivers to flash/update the keyboard firmware. For example, use QMK Toolbox ( this Keychron page has some details on the driver installation (near "Run as administrator")). Prime suspect #1: The notorious Thrustmaster AKA Guillemot driver is not interfering (if it happens to be installed). If it is installed, it may or may not be possible to disable without uninstalling it. Prime suspect #2: SignalRGB is not active. It is allegedly possible to disable it for the current Windows session, without the need to uninstall it. Though it may not affect flashing from the command line (see below), only the configuration tools. If all else fails, do it from the command line (even if not) In a pinch, it is also possible from Linux booted off a live USB stick , say, LMDE (though dfu-util would have to be installed for every session, for example, sudo apt install dfu-util from the command line). BIOS configuration changes may or may not be required for that to work (or at least entering it to select the boot device). Flash from the command-line (with the keyboard in flash mode ): dfu-util -l # Verify bootloader mode dfu-util -a 0 --dfuse-address 0x08000000:leave -D my_awesome_Keychron_K2_HE_iso_encoder_keyboard_firmware.bin It also works on Windows (if the drivers are installed—see #1 above. And if there isn't interference by other software). References K2 HE JSON files for Via (near "K2 HE ISO RGB keymap"). They are also on GitHub . Note: The JSON section should not be confused with the firmware section. K2 HE (main) firmware (near "K2 HE ISO RGB version firmware"). March 26, 2025 -

Hi,

Recently purchased a K2 HE and I'm extremely disappointed with the set up process. launcher.keychron.com doesn't recognize my keyboard in wireless mode. I connected the keyboard via the cable and flashed the firmware, but the keyboard is still not recognized on the launcher.

On usevia.app, I added the downloaded .json file, but nothing shows up in the designer tab. When I try to authorize device, it comes up as 'Keychron Link - Paired'. Does that mean the keyboard is using bluetooth? I have it set on the wireless setting.

Will the launcher only work when the keyboard is connected via the cable?

I live in norway so the price is 1399 nok which is around 133 usd.

r/Keychron on Reddit: Discovered a dev version of Keychron's launcher which lets you do a hidden firmware update
June 29, 2024 -

The URL is https://dfsjkfhakjsd.keychron.com/ . It seems to be identical to launcher.keychron.com except it has a "Module update" section which lets you update something called "LKBT" if you connect a Q1 HE keyboard to the page. I assume that this is the firmware for the Q1 HE's Bluetooth module, but I have not tested this yet because I don't want to brick my keyboard lol.

EDIT: Two people have now reported bluetooth bricking after attempting this on various keyboards, so it's most likely specific to one (possibly development-only) device. If you try flashing the firmware on your own device, expect BT to break irreparably.

Anyways thought this might be interesting to some people here :)

a) Which one is more powerful? QMK or Keychron Launcher?

b) Can someone recommend me a QMK tutorial for a newbie for me that doesn't make me want to pull my hair out?

c) Can someone also explain to me what a tapdance is in keyboard parlance? And how VIAL comes into it?

d) Can someone recommend great macros that has made your life easier? One of my favourites that I use the Launcher to program is the quick Equation Box macro in MS Word. I also have PowerToys installed on my laptop.

Thanks in advance for answers.

Keychron Launcher is a port of VIAL with added Keychron-specific functionality, so it's not a matter of using QMK or Launcher, it's a matter of configuring QMK using the GUI or creating new firmware for your keyboard using the QMK source code. If you are not comfortable doing system programming in C I would not recommend you go the latter route. Tap Dance is not accessible from VIA/Launcher. You will need to rebuild the firmware with VIAL instead of VIA, and use via.rocks instead of launcher.keychron.com or usevia.app. This also carries the same caveat as above... it's a risk. If you had, say, a Q4 or Q15 where there are not so many keys to play with it might be worthwhile. If you are already a decent C hacker, you could still go for it, otherwise if you want to learn I would recommend getting a cheaper board that's directly supported in the main QMK repo to learn on so you don't risk bricking your nice 100% unit. VIA and Launcher support layer-tap and mod-tap, which can do some of the same stuff as tap-dance. I typically program my boards to use layer-tap on tab and caps for layer selection on hold and the base function on tap. Some function combos are simply easier to hit with a left-hand function key.
