Kali linux does not run well on Apple Air M1 / M2, does it?
Is it possible to install Kali Linux on a MacBook Air?

Hello, I'm trying to run Kali on my Macbook air m2, I understand that you can run it via VM but I like the idea of the portability that a USB boot gives you. All of the videos and writeups I find on the internet are for the old macbooks. Is it possible to boot from USB on the new ones?
What are the non obvious differences between booting from USB and using a VM?
Are there any other ways to run Kali on this laptop that I dont know about?
Thanks.
I don't think you can directly install it. Maybe use in a virtual machine?
Hi everyone,
I’m trying to install Kali Linux on a 500GB partition of my external 2TB Samsung SSD. I’ve created a bootable USB drive using a SanDisk USB stick. Here’s what I’ve done so far:
1. USB Drive Preparation: • Reformatted the USB drive using Disk Utility to MS-DOS (FAT) with a GUID Partition Map. • Used balenaEtcher to flash the Kali Linux ISO onto the USB drive. 2. Booting Process: • When I restart my Mac and hold the Power key, I only see the internal Macintosh HD and no option for the USB. • I’ve tried different USB ports and confirmed that the USB shows up in Disk Utility, but I get a message that says “The disk you attached was not readable by this computer.” 3. What I’ve Tried: • Confirmed that Reduced Security is enabled in the Startup Security Utility. • Reflashed the USB multiple times, but it always appears as MBR after flashing.
Questions:
• Is it normal for the USB to revert to MBR after flashing with balenaEtcher? • What could be causing the USB not to appear in the boot options? • Are there any alternative methods or tools I should use to create the bootable USB?
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
I mean directly install on the drive, not USB boot nor virtual machine. Also, I prefer overwriting the macOS on it rather than having dual boots.
I haven't bought one yet. Is M2 fine? Or should I go for M1?
