hello again~
right as I was about to get a $250 weighted piano on Amazon, I found out somewhere else that someone is selling a Kawai ES110 for $550.
Is it worth it? I've been practicing the piano for 7 months but still don't have one myself. Not planning to do much apart from practicing it and playing it for fun, but I've been advised to get a weighted keys one. In the long run I do have in mind getting a proper one, though.

that seems like a good deal for the es110 but it's been a while since i was shopping for one so compare prices. it's a good piano. i decided not to go with it because the es110 was a gig piano and i wanted a more standard furniture model. sorry that didn't really answer your question. i don't know what you were comparing it to but the es110 is a solid buy. keep in mind you'll probably have to buy a stand for it, not sure if it comes with anything but i'll bet even if it does it'll be a folding stand that won't be very sturdy. might still be worth it though!

I say yes. Everyone is different, but I think it's generally a good idea to get the best piano you can reasonably afford if you intend to stick to it., and 7 months shows you're already decently committed. As a late beginner myself , buying a good digital piano was one of the things that helped motivate me to play more often. Not that more expensive is always better, but a Kawai ES110 is certainly a very good place to start. You honestly aren't going to need a much better action than that any time soon. Chances are the Kawaii will also have much better resale value if you don't stick with it too.

I would like to know your current opinion on which keyboard would be a better choice for a complete beginner. All threads that I can find, that compare these two models are a few years old.
Both are available to me in Europe at a nearly identical price.
While the Kawai ES110 is the older model, the good about it is that it comes included with a quality pedal, much higher polyphony (192 compared to Rolands 96), and has great piano sound, but I have found reviews, where many complain about bad build quality and loud action. Also, the main way to connect to a PC is through Bluetooth MIDI, but to connect it with a cable, one needs to buy an additional USB to MIDI cable.
Roland FP-10 (which is still available to me in Europe) comes with a very basic ON/OFF pedal, that will need to be upgraded down the line, and has, what is described as the best action at this price point with PHA-4 Standard, and can be connected to a PC easily with a USB cable. But there are many complaints online over Roland clicky keys (which seem to appear everywhere where PHA-4 is used) and very heavy action.
The sound quality of both can be heard in this comparison from Merriam Music (the tested Roland is FP-30, the older model, before the release of FP-30X, and quite similar to the FP-10):

I personally like the samples on the Kawai more than the Roland supernatural sound engine as well. But I don't dislike the Roland sound. Key weight is probably the biggest influence on the experience for a new student. Acoustic grand key weight is supposed to be around 60 - 70 grams on the high end. Growing up I've had to perform on some pretty heavy ones. So it's not bad to get a heavier action - part of the first year(s) is building up the finger and hand/upper arm strength and learning to leverage your weight. https://www.sweetwater.com/insync/keyboard-action-and-key-weight-experiment/ According to this Kawai es110 is actually on the heavier end. I'm not seeing the FP10 listed but the other Roland models But I think the ES110 will still work. Most of these have 'touch sensitivity' settings that will mitigate how heavy it might feel.

If you're still getting the older price on the Kawai, I'd go with that one, personally. If you're paying the new higher cost, I'd look at other options -- the ES110 just went up from $700 to $900 USD, so I'm assuming they did a similar price hike in other markets as well.
