I know security and I know that backdoors are inherently insecure. I also know that they are hidden. The account recovery feature(s) of Keeper, like (delayed) third-party access for others when you die, OTOH, are fully documented features that are there to help you safeguard the things that your account protects which is the whole point of a vault. And the idea that anyone would extort Keeper for access to someone's vault is a movie plot not a cybersecurity threat for 99.999% of people on earth. Stop misinforming less tech-savvy people with absolutist arguments based on unrealistic threats. More on reddit.com

Anyone who knows security knows that providing a backdoor is inherently insecure. Keeper had for a long time a policy of forcing the question upon you, on iOS, every time you opened the app, begging you to give them a back door "in case you forget your password."
Let's be clear: That password should be the one-and-only key. You should not forget it. If you do, you should go to a safe or safe-deposit box and get your hard backup - notebook or USB drive or whatever.
Under no circumstances should you say, "Hey, internet company that the courts and criminals can extort, here are keys to all my secrets."
But now Keeper is asking that same question daily on the desktop version.
And you cannot disable it. If you really want your vault to have one, and only one, password, they don't support you setting that.
I can't figure out why they push this so hard. If you forget your primary password, how likely are you really to remember your secondary password anyhow?
Avoid Keeper.

Hi, I think you are misunderstanding the way that our Account Recovery system works. Keeper provides account recovery using a randomly generated 24-word recovery phrase. The recovery phrase can be used to regain access to your Keeper Vault in case you forget your Master Password. Keeper implements recovery phrases using the industry-standard BIP39 word list, which is a set of 2,048 words used to generate an encryption key with 256 bits of entropy. Each word in the BIP39 list is carefully chosen to improve legibility and make the recovery process less error-prone. Recovery Phrase account recovery works by storing a second copy of the user's data key encrypted with a 256-bit AES-GCM key. This key is derived using HKDF with HMAC_SHA512 as the underlying hashing algorithm, from the 24 randomly-selected words on the BIP39 list. This recovery phrase is generated locally on your device, not on the server. We don't have access to it. If you want to disable account recovery, you can simply discard the recovery phrase. That said, if the desktop app is prompting every day, that shouldn't happen. It should be reminding you only once every few weeks. Please update your desktop app to the latest version from our website and let me know if this continues to happen.
