Hey. Thanks for the reply. It turns out, after hours of searching, I found the solution less than 5 minutes ago by following this link. That link provided the first breadcrumb that lead me to the solution for my case.https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/windows-key-not-working-already-tried-all-thing-on/0c796f79-0aa8-466e-ab44-802005d1791b,ItIt turns out, with my MSI laptop, I had to install the MSI Center (it didn't even come installed) just to configure whether the Windows key is activated or deactivated.
All in all, I recommend staying away from MSI laptop. The official website is hugely confusing to navigate, software (different software depending on your model) need to be installed to configure whether the Windows key is enabled (and finding which one you need based on your model while their website is confusing is quite a headache), and I had to create an account to access useful sections of their website and had to agree to sharing personal data just to create an account and run their software.
All in all, a terrible experience with MSI and I'd recommend anyone reading this to simple choose a different brand.
About the black screen, I tried several solutions I found online, none of which worked (until trying the factory reset) but should I get the issue again, I'll contact you in case. Thank you.

no funciona el teclado pero si el boton de apagar y encender
Hello there,
Thanks for reaching out. I am Adrian, a Windows expert and an independent advisor. Let’s take this step-by-step and narrow it down.
First, I'd like to ask a few questions to better understand your setup.
- What make and model is your laptop?
- Are you using an external keyboard or the built-in laptop keyboard?
- Does the problem happen in all apps or just in browsers or specific programs?
- When you say CMD doesn’t recognize "shortcut," are you literally typing shortcut as a command, or do you mean it doesn’t respond to things like Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, etc.?
- Have you recently changed input methods, languages, or accessibility settings?
Now, here’s what I want you to try.
- Check if function keys need Fn key.
Some laptops require pressing the Fn key along with F9. Try
Fn + F9
If that works, your function row is set to Media Mode, not Function Key Mode.
To fix
Go to BIOS or your laptop's vendor utility (like Dell QuickSet, HP Command Center, Lenovo Vantage, etc.)
Look for “Function Key Behavior” or “Action Keys Mode.”
Set it to function key.
- Edge Reading Mode Shortcut
In Microsoft Edge:
Try pressing Ctrl + Shift + R or F9 (with or without Fn)
Make sure the page supports Reading Mode (some don’t trigger it if it’s a plain page)
Also try
Clicking the book icon in the address bar if it appears
- Go to Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard
Turn OFF Sticky Keys, Filter Keys, and Toggle Keys
(especially Filter Keys, which can silently block repeated key input) - To rule out software interference
Press Win + R, type msconfig, press Enter
Go to Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all
Go to Startup tab > Open Task Manager > Disable all
Reboot and test shortcuts again - Reset Keyboard Layout and Language
Go to Settings > Time & language > Language & region
Make sure your Preferred Language is English (United States or your region)
Click it > Options > Make sure your keyboard layout is correct (US QWERTY, etc.).
If needed, remove and re-add the layout
Let me know what brand your laptop is and what happens with Fn + F9, and I’ll guide you further. You're not alone in this, and we’ll get it sorted.
Best regards,
Adrian A
Keyboard shortcut Windows key + Ctrl + Shift + number (0-9) no longer working
Cannot type in Windows 11 Search Box
Screen Rotation Shortcut Not Working in Windows 11
Standard Keyboard shortcuts not working with rhino.inside WPF
Taskbar keyboard shortcuts
TITLE SHOULD BE Windows key + Ctrl + number (0-9)
Under Task Keyboard shortcuts, pressing the Windows key + Ctrl + number (0-9) is supposed to go through all the open windows of the same program as long as you press the same number.
For example, if there are multiple Chrome browser windows open and the Chrome app is in the first position of the taskbar, pressing Windows key + Ctrl + number 1 will switch to each Chrome window one at a time with each keypress.
This has been working for a long time, but has stopped working recently. Anyone else have this issue? I'm on Windows 11 23H2. EDIT: Also tried with 24H2. Not working.
EDIT2:
-
Tested with fresh Win 11 23H2 install (no internet connected), no updates = shortcut works.
-
Tested with fresh Win 11 23H2 install, updated allowed = shortcut does not work.
-
Tested with fresh Win 11 24H2 install, updates allowed = shortcut does not work.
There is some update released after 23H2 that disables this shortcut.
EDIT3: This is fixed in:
2025-06 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5060829)
I did not see the fix immediately probably due to the fix being categorized under Gradual Rollout. The fix took effect 1-2 days after installing KB5060829.
Hi Praditya. My name is Lester, and I am an Independent Advisor. I'm sorry that you are experiencing this issue. I'd be more than happy to assist you.
Have you installed any new software or made any recent changes to your system?
- Try restarting Windows Explorer:
Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
Under the "Processes" tab, scroll down and look for "Windows Explorer."
Right-click on it and select "Restart."
Check if the issue persists.
- Update Windows:
Click on the Start Menu > Settings > System > Windows Update > Check for updates > Apply all pending updates.
- If the issue persists, try these suggestions. Fix problems in Windows Search: https://learn.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/window...
I hope this information is helpful. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any more questions. Thank you
Hmm... same issue. Windows Key (and) Search acts like hotkey behaviour, does not allow typing. Gives "C" Calendar, "M" Microsoft Office, (no "D"...)
All fixes listed tried; no avail. Rollback of Feature update and also product update did not help either.
Uninstalled RemotePC, Anydesk, Logmein... no joy.
What else?
Windows 11 Pro 22H2
Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.22621.3447]
Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22688.1000.0

I am using Windows 11 latest update. I have to rotate my laptop's screen frequently. Unfortunately screen rotation shortcut ctrl+alt+up arrow is not working at all. How can I solve this problem? As I have to rotate screen frequently therefore I can not go to settings and choose from either landscape or portrait every time. Can anyone help me to get rid of this issue?
