Delightfully retro and dirt cheap — Keychron C1 Pro 8K review
Just received Keychron C1, I'm not very impressed.

It looks like a regular C1, so won’t bore you with that. I’m not sure what difference, if any, the Chinese version has. The Keychron red switches are oiled. They are smoother and lighter than my Cherry red sample switch. The stabilizers are lubricated and smooth. I put in the cheapest quiet linear switches I could find and the keyboard feels heavenly.
I recently spent some time with the Keychron C1 Pro 8K for a review (review sample provided by Keychron, no money exchanged hands, and I've tried to be as unbiased as I can). I was rather impressed by the build quality and the sound profile, especially for a $55 keyboard. It's by far the stiffest injection moulded chassis I've seen. I cannot get it to flex more than a few millimetres — I mean maybe if I bent it over my knee, but that would be abusive. My 2.5-yo daughter stomped on it once, and it's no worse for wear, so....
In-depth customisation is a plus as well, although there was a rather janky firmware update that forced me to use QMK to update instead of Launcher. I don't personally mind that much, but a casual consumer might.
The Keychron Super Red switches were also surprisingly smooth and non-wobbly for a budget switch, even if the construction is very basic. There is a very small amount of scratchiness when keycaps are pressed off-centre, but it's pretty consistent and more of a "character" thing than a defect, IMO. It wasn't so bad that it could slow me down or bother me when I'm typing.
The stabilisers are also surprisingly good for a Keychron keyboard, but there's this weird thing I've noticed lately with Keychron keyboards that the stabs become rattly when you take the keycap off and put it back. This was especially true for the space bar. Overall, though, an A- for stabilisers. Some lube will almost certainly fix any deficiencies there.
Biggest complaint: The keyboard is tray mount, and I have yet to investigate the mod-ability. I suspect it would be pretty easy to do like a burger mount to improve the sound profile a little, since there was a slight echo/reverb. OSA profile (yes, I know they're not actually spherical shaped) is one of my favourite profiles, but the keycaps are thinner than I'd like. I measured them at 1.1–1.3 mm, depending on where I measured. This contributes to a somewhat thin sound profile, although what can you expect from a $55 board with QMK support?

Idk what happened but my keyboard randomly started smoking... I unplugged it and removed the keycaps and a part of the keyboard core is burnt now.
Any tips?
I'm deciding which keyboard I want and the c1 pro is significantly cheaper, and I was wondering whether other than k8 pro being wireless there is an advantage to the k8 pro.
The k8 pro has a lot of good reviews but the c1 pro doesn't have any, and is it good to buy it on the keychron website or do I need to buy it somewhere else.
Edited to include pro everywhere.
