Download the correct firmware for your keyboard (RGB Backlight/ White Backlight) otherwise, it can brick your keyboard. Make sure you switch the toggle is switched to Win/Android mode only. Make sure that my keyboard is connected to the PC through the cable that comes with the box only. Make sure that you use only Keychron keyboard to connect with the PC, otherwise, it might flash the firmware of any other keyboard.

No, but you can in QMK. No. Just keep the keyboard in Mac mode and rebind all the layers to whatever you want. Yes. Source code here under the hall_effect_playground branch. Any QMK one. April 1, 2025I have found a way to fix a firmware bricked Keychron K2.
But Keychron's bootloader is locked and immune to bricking. If wrong firmware is flashed then you just need to reflash it with proper one, this is a method well known for some time. You just reinstalled driver this way rather than fixed a keyboard. You have figured out a method to refresh a vanished device in device tree. Anyway, it's good that you got your keyboard back and working. More on reddit.com

I'm on linux so I can't upgrade firmware via launcher.keychron.com and my understanding is that I should go with qmk flash but the site still has v1.1 instead of the newer v.1.2

Re "I'm on Linux, so I can't upgrade firmware via launcher.keychron.com": Does normal (dynamic) keymapping work? Using Google Chrome? What happens? Or doesn't happen. Perhaps the download URL for the version 1.2 firmware could be captured somehow? For example, Ctrl + Shift + I, select the "Network" tab (4th tab), and try the firmware update. But is version 1.2 actually available for the K2 HE? How do you know that version 1.2 is available for the K2 HE ? Does the Via clone offer it? That it doesn't work on Linux for some reason does not imply that version 1.2 has been released for the K2 HE.

I'm considering getting a K2 HE and I have some questions regarding the software.
Can I create combos using the Launcher? This is important to me as I use a number of them -- to many to replace using layers.
Am I really limited to only two layers per OS? I can understand that the default configuration only needs two layers but once I want to add my own that is simply not enough.
Can I flash the board with my own version of QMK? This would basically fix the other problems as I can just update everything as I like.
If the K2 HE can't support these requirements, is there another Keychron 60-75% board that can?

For example, I have added two extra layers, for a total of six layers. At least Via supports the extra layers; I don't know about the clone (it does in general, but may there is something HE -specific?).
