Hello,
I am in love with the design and layout of this keyboard as I use the F keys alot in the games I play(Awkward number 1-9 not aligning with F1-F9 on the current keyboard I use).
I plan to order one but before I get ahead of myself, what has been your experience with the Keychron K3 Max? Any solid advice to someone entering mechanical keyboard scene?
Hi,
i need some advice. I’m looking for an office keyboard and got the K3v2 at home for gaming / office with the optical brown switches.
It’s a great keyboard and even survived a full cup of tea spilled over it.
So, I’m thinking about getting the K3v2 for my office job or – would it make sense to take the k3 Max?
I’ve read a lot about switches and keys – and heard some sound-tests on YT (Useless) but I’m wondering if some of you had to make the same discission, what the choose and if they are happy with their choice.
For my use case, office, I don’t need the Backlight, VIA for turning off keys or reconfiguration would be great but it’s not a must have.
1000mhz connection – I don’t care, will use a cable anyway.
Only important thing is the low profile keys :)
Best regards.

Now that i saw this keyboard has also the layout i need, i would like to buy it but i have to buy it from Keychron website and sadly not from Amazon (where it costs 60€ more!)
I'm not very picky when it comes to keycaps or switches since I'm not a fan of mechanical keyboards. I have 2 but of a more commercial type, if we can say so. A Fnatic streak65 and then the Rog Falchion. I immediately adapted to the Streak65 while I initially didn't like the Falchion because of the noise of the switches so I tried to lubricate them from the outside with a liquid and now it's ok. Let's say that the important thing is that you don't hear the metallic noise of the spring. I tried these 2 keyboards because they are the only compact ones with an Italian layout (I'm Italian). Now there is the new version of the Falchion, low profile, but it is expensive for what I can afford at the moment. The K3 on the Keychron site costs about € 95 and I could try it. dimensions and layout are ok. The cable connects in the center (I hate those that connect laterally) The battery is a bit low and my doubts are mainly about this or indirect things that concern it.
With a battery like that, I would use it without lights, which is fine with me but I would like to know if the prints on the keys can be seen in a dark environment, with only the light of the screen that provides a little light.
Other doubts
1 - Is the battery life (78 hours declared) intended as use or are they continuous? That is, does it last 3 days regardless of use (without light) or if I use it 10 hours a day can it last a week because it has an energy saving system when it is not in use (when I go out or sleep for example)? I don't even consider the manual switch to turn it off.
2 - How is the active caps lock signaled? Can you see it well both in a bright and dark environment?
3 - How is the battery charge signaled? For me, it's enough to know when it needs to be recharged and when it's fully charged, but it has to be easy and automatic, without having to press any buttons. This would be fine for me only to check the current battery level, during use, but not to know if it needs to be recharged or if it's fully charged.
I'm considering making my first venture into the world of mechanical keyboards with a K3 max, but, despite high praise for keychron from reddit and reviewers, the K3 max seems to have a lot of issues. It only has 3.7 stars on amazon, and 29% 1 star reviews. Does this specific keyboard have widespread issues?
Thanks for the help, and heads up on there being a good sale for it on amazon right now $59.99 (only the blue switch version though)
Update: The keyboard has developed an issue with registering inputs when no keys are pressed
Hello all, just received a new email announcing the K3 Max (https://www.keychron.com/products/keychron-k3-max-qmk-via-wireless-custom-mechanical-keyboard), although that's not what I'm excited about. What I noticed in the photos is that Keycron now has PBT keycaps in the old Grey/Orange colour scheme. Here's hoping they release these keycaps separately so I can replace the ulgy black/reddish/pink keycaps on my K13!
Other than the colours, seriously, what is the difference between the K3V3 and K3 Max???
Hi, for the past couple of days I've been trying to decide which keyboard I should buy. For the past 3-4 years I've been using the old Logi MX Keys 100% layout model but recently some WASD keys started to get vey loose and unstable. After looking through numerous different keyboard brands and models I managed to narrow my options down to Keychron and 4 different models:
- K5 QMK (version 2) or the 75% version K3 QMK (version 3)
- K5 MAX or the 75% version K3 MAX
Note that all of those are low-profile which is a necessay requirement for me. Now, the keyboard I want will be used for everything (internet browsing, coding, gaming etc.). So I guess a keyboard being a jack of all trades and master of none. I'm really interested in opinions on the new K5 QMK and K3 QMK models since I haven't found nearly as much reviews on those models as with the MAX line. In particular I'd like to know about:
- The bluetooth connectivity. First aspect is reliability - are there any problems with random disconnects? You can assume that sleep mode is turned off for the sake of the discussion. The second aspect is BT refresh rate. Is it useable for gaming in your opinion? Keep in mind that I've been using the old MX Keys for the past 3-4 years which doesn't have very good response rates. The specification says that BT refresh rates are either 90Hz (~11ms) or 125Hz (~8ms) which honestly seems like enough for casual gaming. I know that the MAX model offers a 2.4GHz dongle with 1000H (~1ms) refresh rate, but I've been wondering if that really matters provided that I'm not "professional" in gaming. I doubt that my "biological" response rate is fast enough to differentiate between 1ms and 8ms. But maybe I'm in the wrong/ignorant about some aspects unknown to me so let me know what you think about it.
- The battery life. That's the one thing that really throws me off from bying the MAX model. Especially the 75% variant which based on the specification has only around 80 hours on BT without backlighting. In constrast the K5/K3 QMK seems to have around 2x the battery life which is really attractive. What's your experience with those models and how often do you have to recharge it based on your usecase?
- The switches. The new K5/K3 QMK model offers new Keychron switches instead of the "standard" Gateron ones. Is there any noticeable difference between them? For context, I've been in a local shop which had an K3 MAX on display with brown and red switches installed and agreed for me to try typing on it. In the end the brown ones felt better but they also mentioned something about yellow/banana switches. If you have experience with both of them would you say that banana switches are better than brown ones? Also, since I'll buy a hot-swappable version, are Keychron 2.0 switches (installed in K5/K3 QMK models) compatible with Gateron ones in case I decide to change them up?
I know that's a lot of questions for one thread, but I'd be grateful if you had any answers/opinions even on a single one. I'd also welcome simple comments like "I've bought K5 QMK Version 2 and so far there haven't been any problems whatsoever". My point is that I'd be nice to also see how many people DON'T have any problems with their products in proportion to those that do have some issues with their keyboards.
Hello! I am seeking for an advice from advanced users of keychron low-profile keyboards.
I want to purchase my first own mechanical keyboard. Sadly, in my region only Keychron K3 V3 and Keychron K3 Max are available (from K3 series). And even their variations (e.g. RGB, hot-swappability) aren't common in my shops, so mostly only K3X-A and K3M-A are present for an adequate price (with average price of 85-90 euros).
My main goal to purchase a robust, minimalistic, quiet, wireless, 75% layout keyboard, with a price not higher than 100 euros. That's why I went in love with Keychron K3.
There couldn't be much of a question, but:
I am not sure on quietness of each of the keyboards. Are the red switches really that quiet? If anybody have tried to search for a quiet switches and used those red ones on the Keychron K3's, then I would like to hear Your experience.
If they are not that quiet, then is it actually a deal to invest more money and purchase a hot-swappable keyboard version of those? So in close future just to change the switches on a special quiet ones, which are available on the moment.
And if it is actually a thing to purchase a hot-swappable version, then should I choose a K3X-H1 for its Keychron swithes, or K3M-H1 for its Gateron switches?
OR, I should just keep it easy and go with K3X-A1 and it will be decent for my first-time experience until a new keyboard will come out and I could invest more money into it?
I am not sure if I like any competitors of the K3 V3/Max, like NuPhy Air75 or Epomaker Luma84 just for their more gamer-like design, but if You have a really good experience of using these three keyboards and you could really have a huge dealbreaker in favor of either NuPhy or Epomaker, then I would really like to hear that advice :)
P.S I think I will be fine with the Keychron K3 V3's bluetooth+wire connection variations only, so it is not a big issue for me. It's all just a question of the quietness and overall experience of using K3 keyboards...
So i decided to buy this keyboard and it just arrived. i already see something that is not what i was expecting:
- Keycaps are shine through. i thought k3 max had regular non RGB keycaps.
- I went to usevia.app and they keybaord was recognized but after connecting, nothing happens
- So i tried launcher.keychron. it's annoying i have to connect the keyboard eery time but it's even worse that it's not working with 2,4 ghz connection even if i read "Please connect your device to yuor computer using a cabe or 2.4ghz"....so it should work!
Hello,
I have typed on a Mac before over long periods of time and have really enjoyed that experience. With my previous keyboard, I just like having a very explicit bottoming out of the key. With this board it feels mushy and like less of an explicit "bottoming out" feel / sound / experience.
Is this due to this board? Or perhaps the issue is with the tactile switches slowing things down, as opposed to linears which would let me bottom out more directly. Or is this a common "low profile" board issue? Like I said, I've used Mac keyboards before, so don't feel like it's due to the low profile nature of the keys themselves, but who knows, so I thought I'd ask.
I was thinking of getting the Nuphy75 instead and now I'm debating returning for that board.
Thanks for any feedback!
I have received an email today on the K3 Max and just wondering what's the difference?
Hi everyone, it is my first post here. I received the K3 Max keyboard two days ago and I have got mixed feelings about it. The problem with it mostly about typing experience, when I do not touch the keyboard for some time and start typing again - nothing happens and suddenly I get the sequence of characters shown, like in a second. Cmd+tab needs to be pressed several times till it starts working, cmd+space - also not working from the first try. The Enter key is not always working from the first try. Same for combination of cmd+option+q.
Are these problems common?
Hey everyone,
I’m a bit lost and could use some advice. I’m looking for a low-profile wireless keyboard and I’m deciding between three models: Keychron K3 V3, Keychron K3 Max, and Nuphy Air75 V3.
I want something comfortable for long typing sessions, as quiet as possible, and well-built. QMK/VIA compatibility for remapping would be a plus, but it’s not a dealbreaker.
I’m wondering if the K3 Max is really worth it compared to the K3 V3, and how all three compare to the Nuphy Air75 in terms of comfort, noise, and sturdiness.
If you’ve tried any of these, I’d love to hear your thoughts, especially about comfort over long use and everyday noise levels.
Thanks in advance for your advice!
Hey, i'm considering low profile keyboard, after all research i'm left with 2 choices, what would you choose in terms of quality, compatibility, connectivity, latency etc? Thank so much for all replies.
Are there any alternatives to the Keychron K3 max with a similar design and feel?
Mine has broken after only a few weeks of use, and mercifully I ordered through Amazon, but there doesn't seem to be a real substitute on the market. Particularly in the borderless design.
Any other low profile keyboard recommendations would be appreciated, I'm hesitant to roll the dice with Keychron again, especially after being ghosted by their support
So I'm thinking about getting a 67 keys keyboard for my work laptop ('m a dev) at home and when I go to the office which is 1-2 times a week. My daily driver on my desktop is a Logitech g610 Orion with Cherry MX brown switches, which I like very much.
To be honest I was thinking about getting a Logitech mechanical mini but I can't find one with an ANSI layout in Europe.
So I discovered Keychron while looking at reviews and I'm currently looking at Keychron K3 Pro & Keychron K3 Max versions but I don't know if their differences are worth the difference in money.
Keychron K3 Pro => White backlight - Normal low profile gateron mechanical => 79.9 euro
Keychron K3 Pro => RGB backlight - Hot-swappable low profile gateron mechanical => 96.05 euro
Keychron K3 Max => White backlight - Normal low profile gateron mechanical => 94 euro
Keychron K3 Max => RGB backlight - Hot-swappable low profile gateron mechanical => 113 euro
So considering I don't really care about RGB, is it worth it to choose a hot-swappable version? What kind of switches are available to swap the Gateron ones from other vendors?
Pro vs Max. I see the main difference is the 2.4 GHz connection, which I don't really need and also acoustic foam which could be nice I guess. But the drawback is that I saw the the battery life is almost cut in half.
So the question boils down to this, is the option of hot-swappable switches and the foam worth the 33 difference and the downside of smaller battery?
First time keyboard buyer. I type and code, I don't do gaming. I would like a keyboard that feels close to a laptop so that I can easily switch back and forth, so 75% looks the best option and I found Keychron K3 Max QMK for 133 € VAT and shipment incl. I would like to use the keyboard in the office as well, so I opted for switches Low Profile Gateron Mechanical Red. Any advice or alternative keyboard? I am a little bit over my budget, but this is fine.
