Hi, I'm experiencing latency on BT mode with my new keyboard (k3 v2) and when its connected with cable there is no lag. With magic keyboard there is no latency at all. Has someone experienced this?
system:
MB Air M1, monterey 12.3.1
First of all I am coming from an ISO layout, TKL, low profile, tactile keyboard that I am very happy with. Sharkoon PureWriter RGB TKL, Low-Profile (Kailh) Blue.
I want to upgrade now to a better keyboard with lower input latency. Without giving up the feeling of low profile, tactile switches.
Low latency is a product of about 4 features:
-
optical switches (no 2-20ms debounce delay that classical mechanical switches require to avoid accidental double press)
-
high internal key scan rate (1000-8000Hz) and fast internal microcontroller
-
high USB polling rate (1000-8000Hz). And obviously no use of Bluetooth.
-
and sync between USB polling times and internal scans
See this video for a good summary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avfGY5V8csI
Corsair does 2,3 and 4 (under the "AXON" brand) in their K70 Tournament Edition. And 1,2,3,4 in their K100 Model. Unfortunately neither of them is low profile. And the K100 is not TKL. There is an older K70 low profile v2, but that doesn't have AXON.
The only vendor that I found that sells optical low profile switches is Keychron. There is even a model with ISO layout and tactile switches [2] [3] [4]
The concern that I have with going with Keychron is their keyboard micro controller and firmware. Keychron doesn't advertise any low latency functions like Corsair does with their AXON brand. And some Reddit thread claims that the default key scan rate is insanely bad [5] at 60 Hz.
My question is: can I flash some QMK open source firmware to the K3 version 2. And increase the internal scan rate from 60 to 4000Hz? I am prepared to turn off some features that I don't necessarily need like RGB lighting effects.
Thanks in advance!

Read and watched a couple of reviews and placed an order for this thing, only to almost immideately afterwards find several more reviews mention that is has significat latency when used wirelessly.
How bad is it in practice in fast paced games such as Call of Duty and other twitch shooters and/or League of Legends?
EDIT: ended up cancelling my Keychron K3 v2 order and ordering ROG Azoth instead.
Whenever the keyboard is in Bluetooth mode and the keyboard is idle for some time it takes couple of seconds to connect and loses the first few key presses. Looking on kickstarter and youtube comments/reviews this seems to be a common issue for the K3. Minus the connectivity lag and mediocre battery life I'm enjoying the keyboard. I have a couple of questions.
Does this happen with other Keychron keyboards in BT mode too?
Does anyone know what the battery life is like if I disable sleep and leave it on (no RGB)? I'm running Bluetooth 5.x on both ends so I know the battery life will be better, but just curious how quickly it will drain. Guess I'll figure this one out on my own.
Thanks.
Edit: Thanks for all the feedback. I ended up just turning off auto-sleep which made the overall experience much better, but disabled the RGB. I'll be testing the battery life over the next couple of days. Hopefully Keychron can address the wake functionality if at all possible as it's not very good.
I’ve been looking at the k3 and it ticks most the boxes for what I want from a keyboard. The only thing that puts me off is I game competitively and other Bluetooth keyboards I’ve tried just don’t cut it. They have signal drops and noticeable input lag. Is there anyone on here that uses the k3 wirelessly for gaming that could let me know how it performs?
My K6 has been fine for me gaming, though I am not a serious / competitive gamer by any means. FWIW, you can also use keychron boards wired, so maybe that would be a solution for you when you're gaming, and you could be wireless otherwise?
I’m pretty sensitive to latency, and I probably wouldn’t recommend Blue Tooth anything for gaming. But yeah, you can always go wired with any of the Keychrons. I would’t expect significant latency in that mode, though I could be wrong. Maybe someone’s done a latency test?
Hey guys I’m trying to figure what’s the best keychron keyboard between k3 v2 or the k3 max
Its been a while now but I used my Keychron for almost a full year. After a period of not using it, it became laggy, missing keystrokes and sometimes not responding. I have used it on Mac myself, but also tried it on Windows and the problem seemed to be persistent. Also tried Bluetooth mode, but no luck. Planning on opening it to see if there might be something obvious (such as liquid), but I’m not aware of something strange happening to my keyboard.
Any suggestions?
Hi, I use a Mac and own an MX Mechanical Mini, but it has terrible issues with the ambient/proximity sensors. I have gone through 2 of them and even when my computer is asleep the backlight NEVER shuts off. I have emailed Logitech support a dozen times and it was a nightmare. I have also used an Apple Magic keyboard, but it is ridiculously flat so I ruled that out.
Thus I narrowed it down to the K3 Version 2 because a regular height mechanical keyboard just seems too tall for me. It seems like the K3 Version 2 gets really good reviews on Amazon and is pretty popular.
That said, I watched some reviews and some people mention the K3 version 2 has ABS keycaps, Bluetooth issues and is hard to type on, but a lot of people seem to be happy with it. Does anyone else have issues with it or is it a pretty good keyboard?
