r/Keychron on Reddit: Opinions on the V3?
April 20, 2023 -

I have no idea what I’m doing, but I read a New York Times article about this being a great keyboard. Became interested because my friend has a K3. I have no idea what the differences are between the K’s, the V’s, and the Q’s. I’ll be using this purely for typing. Any opinions and help are greatly appreciated!

IMO the V series models are great entry points into mechanical keyboards. I'm biased as I started the custom keyboard journey with a V1 not all that long ago. For the price, especially in bare bones, the V1 is a great learning keyboard. I took it entirely apart, changed out stabs, added PE foam, tape mod, super dense case dampening and had a blast customizing it with VIA. All V series keyboards, to my knowledge, offer hotswap PCBs and are wired only. The K (non-Pro) series is more turn-key, in my opinion, though that doesn't mean they can't be modded. Some of them feature soldered switches so the boards don't have hot-swap sockets. The non-Pro K series cannot be customized using QMK/VIA. They also come in both regular and low profile form factors. I have a low profile NuPhy keyboard that is awesome, but only if you like low profile keyboards. In lieu of flexibility over the V series, the K series includes wireless options but can be used wired only. As someone who wants to mess with my keyboard I feel the V series is more appropriate for me. After having my fun with the V1 I purchased the Q1 Pro, same layout and customizability but with an aluminum case, wireless connectivity, high customizability and targeting the keyboard enthusiast. With modding the V1 under my belt I had no issues taking apart a $200 keyboard and modding it as well. If you want a wireless keyboard, the K and K-Pro series can meet that. If you want greater customizability, then I recommend the V series. In barebones form and with QMK/VIA support, the price is really hard to beat. But get an assembled version if you don't want to initially mess with switches and keycaps. Just read up on the different switch options before pulling the trigger. And note that you can mod it for sound and feel after you are comfortable with it.

I was in a similar situation last week. After doing some research to replace my current Logitech G513, I ended up considering the K8 pro and the V3 and I purchased the V3. On paper, there does not seem to be much (or any?) difference in build quality, so it comes down to features. The main feature of the K8 pro is the dual wired/wireless connection option. The main benefit of the V3 is the option to get a knob. To me , the wireless option of the K8 pro was not particularly attractive, especially after reading some reviews that reported some issues with the bluetooth connection on this keyboard. On the other hand, coming from a keyboard that lacked dedicated multimedia keys, I was very interested in the programmable knob present on the V3. I purchased the V3 (knob version) from Amazon in "like-new condition" and got a great price for a product that looks new. Received it yesterday and I'm very happy with it. The brown switches are a nice upgrade relative to my previous Logi keyboard. The typing experience is really great, and the build quality seems way better than my previous keyboard. I only tested a few customization options on the VIA interface and everything looks great. I also find the knob to be a great feature. After using it, it will be difficult to switch back to a keyboard without it.

r/MechanicalKeyboards on Reddit: Didn’t expect the K3 V3 to be this good
2 weeks ago -

Just picked up the Keychron K3 V3 and I’m seriously impressed. The build quality and typing feel are way better than expected for the price.

I’ve owned a regular-profile Keychron K4 for a while, but long sessions started to cause wrist discomfort. The only other low-profile mechanical I’ve tried was the Logitech MX Mechanical Mini (brown switches) at Best Buy, and the K3 V3 feels noticeably better to me.

It’s wild that this keyboard is around $60 while similar low-profile boards go for $150+. I also use an MX Keys and love it for what it is, but as a low-profile mechanical, the K3 V3 has been a great experience so far.

Very happy with the form factor and the keyboard overall.

r/keyboards on Reddit: Choosing between Keychron K3 V3, K3 Max, and Nuphy Air75 V3 – need adv
August 13, 2025 -

Hey everyone,

I’m a bit lost and could use some advice. I’m looking for a low-profile wireless keyboard and I’m deciding between three models: Keychron K3 V3, Keychron K3 Max, and Nuphy Air75 V3.

I want something comfortable for long typing sessions, as quiet as possible, and well-built. QMK/VIA compatibility for remapping would be a plus, but it’s not a dealbreaker.

I’m wondering if the K3 Max is really worth it compared to the K3 V3, and how all three compare to the Nuphy Air75 in terms of comfort, noise, and sturdiness.

If you’ve tried any of these, I’d love to hear your thoughts, especially about comfort over long use and everyday noise levels.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

I expect the NuPhy Air V3 with the blush switches will be the most silent of the ones you mentioned. You could also consider the Lofree Flow Lite. I believe this is a slightly cheaper board comparatively, and if you pair it with their silent switch "Hades", you're in for a very silent treat. [This message was typed on a Lofree Flow Lite with Hades Switches, and tbh the people sitting close to me in my shared office space, would most likely not have been able to hear me typing] My only gripes with the Lofree Flow Lite is that it has a plastic chassis (instead of Alu) and a wierdly large top bezel. Personally, I'm a bit hyped about the NuPhy Air75 V3 currently, and would consider purchasing it, if I was in the market for a new low profile keeb.

I have both a Keychron K3 V3 and a Nuphy Air75 V3. Keychron K3 V3 pros: - shine-through keycaps (with very visible legends when backlighting is off during daytime) - good quality foams inside which result in good key sounds when pressed - very fast wake-up time from sleeping mode when using Bluetooth - can be easily opened if you're into modding or want to repair the keyboard yourself - good customer support - big variety of compatible low-profile switches on the market - QMK compatibility Keychron K3 V3 cons: - battery still on the small side - especially if you want to run with RBG lights enabled - no 2.4GHz connection (Bluetooth is very underwhelming if you want to use it while playing any "fast-paced" games) - RBG diodes are pretty dim during daylight (and you don't see any backlighting between the keycaps even at night) - EXTREMELY rattly/reverb sounding spacebar stabilizer which kind of made me stop using the board (maybe it is a "skil issue", but I even tried opening up the board, re-lubing stabilizer housings, straightening the wire and applying some band-aid mods in couple places - nothing helped) - weird spherical-angled keycap shape (though this is highly subjective) - stock Milk POM switches leave a lot to be desired (I went with banana switches and they weren't factory lubed at all which lead them to be EXTREMELY scratchy/screechy when pressed - it was very audible) - no separate indicator lights/sidelights for caps lock or battery level - dubious QC - I had to open up the keyboard and trim the sound damping foam near the stabilizers since a part of it came in contact with a couple stabilizers stems which caused them to be very mushy when pressed (Rest of the content is below in a reply since reddit doesn't allow long-ass comments)
