I was just about to order a Q1 when I discovered that there are two versions out there and Keychron seems to still sell V1 alongside V2. The shop where I was going to order does not explicitly state if it is a V1 or V2.

Hi, I'm interested in buying one of the Q series Keychron keyboards. Can you please tell me what are the main differences between the Q1 V1 and V2 models? Also, is it worth paying extra for the V2 version? Additionally, I would like to know if the only difference between the Q1 Pro and the other models is its wireless feature.

Q1 knob version and Q1 version 2 are the same. They differ from the Q1V1 as they have the force break mod already installed as well as a few other improvements. And a knob obviously. It is definitely worth getting the V2 over the V1. The Pro version has wireless and a polycarbonate plate instead of steel. And different keycaps. Unless you really want wireless I’d get the Q1V2. I’m very happy with mine so far.

Coming from a ducky SF. Was thinking of picking up a keychron Q2 but now not sure if I should go with the Q1 knob version instead. Anyone have any insights between the two? Thank you!

Q2 reviews will be happening shortly but they’ve taken all they learnt from the Q1 and leveraging it for the Q2. They’ve also refined the Q1. Both will be great options, and I’m pretty sure the Q2 will have a knob variation. Just comes down to preference on layout! If you like the 65 Q2, interested in seeing what a 75 is like Q1. I feel as if you’ll be satisfied with either choice!

I was so set on Q2 myself. Then it was delayed again, then wanted to try 75% layout and decided on Q1 knob version since they will be both the same other than the layout. Then that was delayed another week as well lol. But still going with the Q1 because I decided I wanted another keyboard but in the 60% layout that allowed arrow keys. I have a 65% durgod pre-built atm. Plus the barebone Q1/Q2 with knob will be the same price.

looking to purchase either for the kit of my first ever mechanical keyboard and wondering why the q1 is like twice the price of the v1. does it do anything to warrant the price?

The V1 is an unbelievable keyboard for its price. There are basically no downsides to it with it being south facing rgb, hot swappable, has qmk/via support, pcb mount stabilisers etc. It’s easily the best entry level ‘enthusiast’ board. The Q1 is on a whole other level though. It’s made of metal (which isn’t massively important but does raise the cost) and is gasket mount instead of tray mount which the v1 is. That’s not necessarily a bad thing if you prefer a super firm and solid feel though. If you start with a V1 the chances are you’ll end up at some point upgrading to the Q1 further on down the line. If you get the Q1 it’ll be all the keyboard you’ll ever need.

I would bet almost all of the price difference is due to materials. The V1 has an ABS plastic case whereas the Q1 is fully aluminum. Aluminum is heavier and can have appealing sound characteristics compared to plastic. The Q1 is a great keyboard and I think it's a good value, but if you're looking to keep it cheap the V1 would be just fine and opens up some more room for trying different switches and keycaps to dial in what you like.

It sounds better (once I replaced the keycaps) than every board I have except the kbd75 (which is a lot more expensive). I’m very happy with how it sounds. And the stabilizers are so much better than the Keychron that I had before.
