I have *exactly* the same issue with a Keychron K3 Max and I've been struggling with it for weeks. I was in contact with both Keychron and Apple support, but pushed more on the Apple side because the keyboard worked flawlessly before the Sequoia update. However, I can reproduce your observation. Namely, when enabling the backlight (which I typically keep disable for your same reasons), the problem seems to disappear. This is very strange! More on reddit.com

Difference between Windows and Mac Mode?

It still works fine. Mac and windows have different layouts so if it’s in Mac mode its configured like a Mac layout and not a windows layout. More on reddit.com

"the Keychron software" probably refers to Keychron Engine . It runs on both Windows and Mac. It may or may not work in a virtual machine as well, for example, on Linux. The dongle firmware updater does not Though the updater for the firmware on the '2.4 GHz ' dongles only runs on Windows. It may or may not work in a virtual machine (this apparently also depends on the underlying processor architecture , e.g. x86 vs. ARM ). At least for the keyboards; I am not sure about mice. There was recently a new version out for the dongle firmware (3.0, 2024-06).

TL;DR
After updating MacOS from Sonoma and earlier versions to Sequoia, My Keychron keyboard connected via Bluetooth experience disruptions. Specifically, as soon as you stop typing or interacting with the keyboard, it seems to "sleep" and stops responding to key presses. You have to press a few times for the OS to start registering inputs again. Call it whatever you like—freezing, lagging, or disconnecting...

The STORY :D
I have a Keychron Q1 Max. I connect to Windows via USB adapter and to MacOS via Bluetooth. Initially, I was sure the issue was with MacOS Sequoia, as I have never had this problem with any other OS. Also, Sonoma worked without issues with my keyboard before I updated to Sequoia. Additionally, when I connected my keyboard via Bluetooth to my Windows PC, it worked just as well as it did on the previous MacOS version. However, the more I researched, the more I began to suspect that the issue might not be the OS itself, but rather the keyboard and how it interacts with the new OS...

Keyboard Firmware: 1.0.0 - There’s no newer version, though I still tried re-flashing and resetting my keyboard.

Keychron Receiver: d.3.0 - I updated the wireless receiver to the latest version, though this was unnecessary since I have it connected to my Windows PC.

Keychron Bluetooth: 0.2.0 - There was indeed a Bluetooth update that I missed. After updating, it seemed like the keyboard worked a bit better and more stably with MacOS Sequoia, but the freezing didn’t completely go away. It only seemed less frequent. Either the changes were minimal, or it was just a placebo effect.

PARTIAL FIX:
I never use backlighting on my keyboard; personally, I find it unnecessary. But I noticed something interesting...

If I connect my keyboard to MacOS Sequoia via Bluetooth and enable backlighting, for instance, the "Jellybean raindrops" mode, the keyboard stops disconnecting, freezing, and lagging. It works, if not perfectly, then at about 98-99% of what I was used to.

Based on this, I conclude that there’s some kind of power-saving mode on the Bluetooth module that, to put it mildly, isn’t functioning correctly on the keyboard.

If there are people here who understand this, can test it out, or can explain why this happens, it would be awesome.

And hopefully, the backlight trick will help someone else as well! :)

Same issue with K17 Max and MacOS 15.0.1. I've been using the keyboard wired since updating to Sequoia, but nice to know there is a workaround with the backlight. Hopefully It will be fixed soon.
