For casual wear, if I’m not grabbing a pair of jeans, then I’m usually grabbing some chinos. Nearly all my chinos (J Crew, Buck Mason, OrSlow, etc) are a shade of olive green. I’d like to mix it up with some chinos in other colors. Not interested in Navy.
So that leaves khaki. I particularly have my eye on the J Crew Classic Chinos in “stone” which is a light khaki.
Whenever I think of khakis I think of the gap from the 90s and looking like a Target or Best Buy worker.
Any tips on how to pair khakis or make them somewhat fashionable? Inspo pics would be cool too.

I like to think of khakis as a blank canvas. As long as your silhouettes are coherent, you can wear almost anything you want with them. I wear my 50s army khakis with fleeces, vintage flannels, and my Lee 101j. I wear my vintage PRL creme khakis with jackets and ties. Buy a pair in a silhouette that you wear the most, and just start experimenting.

I’ve found taking pages out of the preppy playbook helps them look a little less boring. OCBD, loafers, oxfords or chelseas, with a cord sport coat, or Shetland sweater, that sort of thing.

I just avoid khaki color entirely and opt for darker brown, grey, and blue chinos. Khaki can also mean a lot of different things, since it's technically a color, not a style. Are you talking about khaki chinos? Or khaki dress pants? Khaki chinos will be easier to dress down by wearing a sweater, crew neck sweatshirt, or even a tshirt rather than a more formal collard shirt. Khaki dress pants are always going to feel more formal.
