The other 2 original girls have movies but Kirsten never got one. The first movie came out 3 years before Kirsten was retired so there was plenty of time to release one before they retired her. I also think it’s strange that they gave Kirsten such a small collection compared to Samantha and Molly, retired her first, and never brought her back like they did Samantha and Molly. (I don’t count the 35th anniversary because there were no outfits or sets, it was for collectors) Basically why did they just throw her away and not give a new generation of girls a chance to love her? I am relieved that she was not included in beforever because that was terrible and it did not do any of the characters justice.

The movies were made with the friend dolls (excluding the ones they made with Amazon), so they were really to promote the new collections (Felicity/Elizabeth, Kit/Ruthie, Sam/Nellie, Molly/Emily). They never expanded Kirsten’s collection in this way, thus no movie. I’d really love a Kirsten and an Addy movie, but I doubt we will ever see those.

I’m also salty that Kirsten hadn’t been included in anything in the past decade. As far as movies go, I always assumed that they chose to feature characters that were the biggest seller. I think Kirsten sold fine, but Samantha/Kit/Molly/Felicity were just more popular. Or maybe that’s just my anecdotal perception, idk.

I feel like Samantha and Molly are basically the two main faces of the American Girl Doll franchise and the most well-known/popular. Kirsten was the other original doll yet it seems like isn't anywhere near amongst one of the most popular.
For those who were around when the original three came out, did they always push for/advertise Kirsten less than the other two?

Huh, I never got this vibe! I'm a kid of the 90s and the "advertising" was just the catalogues, which portrayed all the dolls equally. I really never felt like any one of them was favoured or showcased over any others until much later when Mattel came along with more focused branding. Little House on the Prairie was also insanely popular in the 90s, so if anything I feel like Kirsten was more popular than the others because she felt more topical to other trends (the books and tv show) aimed at little girls.
