I am curious what others are seeing trending in the cabinet industry in other parts of the United States. Laminate cabinetry is very popular in Europe in Asia and is a growing segment in the United States. I often see trends hit the coast and migrate inland towards the Midwest. Here in the Midwest, we are still very traditional with lots of wood cabinetry. Painted cabinetry is probably 90% of what I see versus stained. Laminate is very popular in the multifamily housing market for obvious reasons as well as the Closet industry. I cannot foresee laminate ever replacing custom wood cabinetry here in the Midwest, but I definitely see it taking a bite out of some of the economical cabinet lines. White and black will always be classic finishes, but I think we will see a trend moving towards more warm brown tones and away from the grays that have been popular over the last several years. What are your guys‘s thoughts and where are you from?
We bought the house in 2012 and did kitchen refresh that lasted for 13 years. We're nearly finished a larger remodel project that included the kitchen(also nearly finished). We essentially kept the same layout but added stacked cabinets, a 5 ft wide pantry and a bookshelf. The chicken shit island houses my microwave drawer and pull out cutting boards. Ceilings are 12 ft high so cabinets with crown are nearly 10 ft. I prefer dust to soffits, so no soffits. Cabinets are Kraftmaid Vantage in maple, Taj Mahal Quartzite counters and backsplash and Rock Salt porcelain tiles with radiant heat.
