This should probably be a FAQ as it is easily one of the most common questions asked. It's already been asked 6x in the past week. If you type "knife set" up in the search bar next to where it says " r/Cooking " you will see, literally, hundreds of posts. Every single one of them boils down to this: Don't buy a knife set. Buy a chef's knife, a gyuto knife, or a santoku knife (probably in that order of preference for me). Why you shouldn't buy a knife set because they are mostly redundant. Most home cooks only need a chefs knife, a serrated bread knife and a paring knife for smaller tasks. Spend the money on a good chef's knife. What style, shape, length, upkeep, weight, etc. will dictate what you should get. Head over to r/chefknives and read thru their getting started guide to learn about what factors to look for. They even have a questionnaire you can fill out to request a reco.
