There are some definite trends in sinks but this is a workhorse item and you should know that some of these trends are not really functional. Some sinks are very crisply rectangular. It looks very sleek, but the sharply creased corners are miserable to clean. You want at least a little bit of curve there. Black sinks exist for those who want to ride the black trend, but they show hard water deposits like nobody's business. I recently stayed in a vacation rental with a black sink and it always looked grimy. Fireclay sinks can break if you drop a pot in them. If you want a white sink, get cast iron instead, it comes in basically the same styles. Some function-driven trends: Single basins are more popular. Double sinks used to be popular when dishwashers were uncommon because you can soak your plates in one basin and rinse in the other. Now that most kitchens have dishwashers (and you should almost never design a kitchen that doesn't have one, it's a negative ROI choice) it's mostly the large items that get hand washed, and it's easier to wash large things in one large basin than two small ones. As far as I know, the one setting in which double sinks are still the preferred choice is a kosher kitchen. Sinks have gotten deeper in the last 15 years. You can fit more stuff in a deeper sink and it's easier to wash larger pots. They're not the optimal choice for tall people (more bending- back pain) or large-busted short people (those vast tracts of land get irrigated) or when designing for a seated user such as someone with a wheelchair. Remodeling kitchen. Preference for kitchen sink? Composite or stainless? Currently have a composite and not totally impressed. Any thoughts?(internet pic for reference)
Stainless . Undermount as said by everyone else. But don't get a squared off bottom like the one shown. The corners don't clean nicely. More on reddit.com

r/kitchenremodel on Reddit: Kitchen Sink - how do you choose??
June 10, 2025 -
With all the kitchen choices of layout, cabinets, countertops appliances, I didn’t realize I also have to choose a sink from a ton of options.
Is there a thought process, or an in fashion style? Is bigger better or small and sleek? Do people like the sinks with the two sections? (My current sink is one very large one that isn’t divided.)
I’ll be shopping around this weekend to figure it out and would really appreciate any success stories, or any regrets that might help me learn well on this choice.

It doesn’t matter what other people like. It matters what you like and what works best for you and the way you use your kitchen. Some people like stainless steel, I like enamelled cast iron. If you under Mount the sink, that makes it easier to clean the counters. I’d choose white or stainless.
