This is a tough one, not a clear-cut favorite. Ewing should have been, and he didn't take it and run with it (mostly because MJ kept him and everyone but Olajuwon from winning any rings). Bernard King, in the 1984 playoffs, played as well as anybody ever did in a Knicks uniform (43 a game against the Pistons, then head-to-head with prime MVP Larry Bird taking a much better Celtics team to 7 games with Bill Cartwright and Rory Sparrow as his best teammates). He was amazing in 1985 and if he didn't have that catastrophic injury in Ewing's rookie year, they would have started winning titles when the wheels fell off Larry Bird from a health perspective. I'm not sure MJ would have been able to dethrone those guys in the early 90s until Bernard was past his prime if the Knicks could have put support around them. My answer is Clyde though. Amazing 2-way guard on the court, huge Game 7 in 1970 finals (the greatest individual game in Knicks history) and off the court, was a freakin' icon that was so emblematic of 1970s New York City that it matters.
