Keens, Planet Shoes and Ecco are all fantastic brands. I’ve also had good luck with pricier fashion stores but generally I look for leather, arch support and a decent sole. I teach and inferior shoes get chewed through very quickly. More on reddit.com

Apt. 9 puts out a lower-to mid-range level of product for contemporary tastes as far as their shoes and clothes are concerned. Their durability may not be so great at that price. Don't let the shoe snobs here take you astray because they likely aren't in broke college student mode, and if they are, they are pretending otherwise at all cost. Generally, any indication for anything other than MFA sidebar guidelines are strictly rejected by that type of folk, because they don't know any different, and that especially goes for shoes. That said, I don't think those shoes would be good for college. They are too formal looking, when a good pair of derby shoes or some adventurous oxfords would fulfill the upscale casual look much better. I'm not going to recommend a brand because the ego-centric MFA shoe mafia would downvote me for anything not approved by way of the sidebar, but the shoes are out there if you look hard enough, and eventually the MFA shoe mafia will realize that all style changes, including what currently they rigidly adhere to without exception.
