Nothing happens no matter how far I adjusted it, even all the way in. Still puffing black smoke. Found a new mixture screw in a rebuild kit going to swap them out, Don’t have much faith that will solve problem ... Only thing left is the needle and seat. Otherwise it's $300 for a new carb.

Hahaha....sorry I couldn't help you... BTW... you have one of the few carbs that the mixture screw is accessible... Most are covered with a Welch plug or are a fixed jet ( non adjustable).. you will never find any reference to that screw or the adjustment in any Kohler literature..

April 3, 2024 - In the meantime, the engine speed may increase and decrease. Place the throttle into slow or idle mode. Turn the Kohler carburetor adjustment screws in or out to set a low idle speed of 1200 RPM (+/-75RPM).

I put a tach on it to see the rpms and I adjusted the idle to 1500 rpms (after warm up), I adjusted the low needle (i replaced the old one) and at full throttle I was only getting 3400 rpms with no load. I adjusted the governor up a notch but it didn't do much. If I pull the linkage on the carb I can get the rpms up but the linkages where the throttle cable attaches to are at max.

One last thing, make sure the governor is set correctly. Take the black link out in the picture, push everything to WOT. The throttle linkage to the carb should fall in the hole of the governor arm. If not, it is not set correctly.

Remember to look for the "SUPER TINY" specks of dirt which actually turn out to be the orifices!!!!! Good lighting is essential to a clean carburetor.... JMO, I don't feel you have an ignition problem... ... Depending on the hours on it,you may also want to check the governor adjustment .
