May 6, 2022 - My 26.5 HP engine starts and runs fine for a minute or so. It then starts loading up until an idiot light comes on, then it loses all power. What does the light stand for, it''s above the low oil level light, the manual is garbage.

June 24, 2015 - I too bit the dirt for purchasing a Kohler Courage engine in my Cub Cadet. Total rip off! had just got ready to do the second oil change and the block cracks. Sure i read you shouldn't have purchased from a big box store. After the fact i have read that. So many scamms in this world today. Read these Kohler horror stories. kohler courage ... Sorry you're having problems, but I'm confused, how does changing the oil crack the crankcase?

November 18, 2011 - In like...early 2000's or so, Kohler Dabbled with an engine called the Triad...won engine of the year, all these awards, but it was a turd. It had no heads. The head was cast into the cylinder, and it was OHC with a large timing belt. The pistons were installed then the crank was installed and bolted together. The block was split at the crank, like a car...it was a real piece of work. The problem was, it had a tiny little air filter, and it clogged wthin 5-10 hours of use, and it bypassed dirt into the engine and oversized rings were never produced, it was never designed to be taken apart or serviced....Kohler had to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars replacing these engines with Commands, and giving back a cash credit...

October 5, 2019 - Saw a forum topic on pluse fuel pumps here from 2013 and seems there are some experts on the forum. I have an older JD with a twin Kohler motor. It's been running fine for the 4-5 years I've had it until a week ago. While mowing some undeveloped acres on a lake lot the engine just died out. I'd let it sit a few minutes then it would run again for a few minutes then die again. Runs great when cold, problem only happens when hot and running hard.

April 11, 2015 - I ran a Twin Cam Kohler rider for many years in VA without any issues at all. But then again, it was meticulously maintained. Will need engine model number to decide what to look for next. ... I would bet valves need adjustment. Any engine can have issues. The OHV engines seem to be the most prone to this. ... Had the same problem with my Kohler, and after replacing the starter, it is problem free.

September 2, 2008 - I had trouble with my 25 hp. Kohler not running well when it got hot. The hotter the day the worse it was. When it started acting up the choke would help it run but it didn't have much power. I tried all the easy stuff to no avail. Finally I changed the ignition coils and that solved the problem.

June 2, 2021 - Guy says some run hot and cook, others have plastic cam gears (WTF) that are problematic. Buddy who works there says they burn oil from day 1 and Kohler has a spec on that as previously mentioned. For what they cost it sure dosent appeal to me. November 11, 2022 - Inability of the OEM starter motor to crank the engine past compression has been a very common complaint. One "fix" is to tighten the valve lash to create a slight compression release. (not good for valve life.) Kohler has "upgraded" the starter motor three times. The latest, Generation 3, has a stronger motor and a 9 tooth drive gear instead of the older 10 tooth gear......... more torque. That fixes the problem.
