Saw the Kohler cast iron farmhouse sink today in the store as well as the undermount cast iron sink. The farmhouse display was chipped… not great for what they are trying to sell. For those of you that have this sink, how easy is it to chip?

Even with well made enamelled cast iron cookware like Le Creuset, chips inevitably happen. That's because cooking and cleaning can be rough and tumble events. I would never buy an enamelled cast iron sink for the kitchen. Stainless steel is the only way to go.

We have one and we love it. Check my comment history, I posted a picture of ours recently. We put a wire rack in that's custom made by Kohler for the specific model. Helps prevent banging while washing dishes. No kids in our house so not worried about that damage but I might reconsider if we did.

How to install heavy cast iron undermount sink, granite countertop
I would require you to hire someone else to create support so the top of the sink sits 1/16" below the level of the cabinets. Most shops I know would require you to have this completed BEFORE measure up. We're countertop installers, not cabinet makers. Hire a cabinet maker if your cabinets need modifications to support a cast iron sink. More on reddit.com

Help! What support is needed for 27"cast iron kitchen sink?
We have a similar Kohler farmhouse sink. It is mounted on top of a cabinet that completely supports it. I cannot find its weight, but I can’t imagine undermount adhesive would be enough to hold it. More on reddit.com

Finally installed the FREE Kohler cast iron sink we scored 2 years ago
That's called the 'Executive Chef' by Kohler and it was probably their best selling kitchen sink. The only drawback to modern cast iron sinks is that they took the lead out of the enamel finish which resulted in a "softer" surface and it scratches much more easily unlike your Grandma's bulletproof kitchen sink in Harvest Gold color. I tell folks to take a look at fireclay or stainless steel sinks for longevity when they're looking to purchase one. That being said, you guys picked up a great sink at an even better price! I bought a 27" undermount (NOT a farmhouse) Kohler Riverby cast iron sink to be installed with my granite countertop (thick slab, 36" cabinet) . While ordering the granite, the sales person said they will use 2x4s to support the sink and it won't be pretty. I'm afraid they will ruin my new sink base. How are these heavy cast iron sinks installed? They have my new sink, and I assume they will drill and dry fit the clips. Do they need to build some sort of a support while installing it? The base of the cabinet (or any cabinet) would not support a vertical 2x4 pressing down with 300 pounds, and I don't like the idea of a bunch of 2x4s nailed into my new cabinet. What is the process?

I saw a company that makes metal supports that adjust up and down. Not sure why installers won't use these instead http://sinkmount.com. Fabricators, what is your method for installing these heavy cast iron sinks? Would you use these metal supports if the customer supplied them?
