Rip Kotaku. There was a point in time where the best journalism in gaming came from this site. It was going down hill for a while but is total shit since Hogan and Peter Theil killed gawker. They just repost stories they see on Reddit, and post shitty game guides. 5 tips for playing (whatever’s trending) sadly theres not a lot of alternatives for those of us who can’t stand “YouTubers”. Polygons gotten a lot better over the past few years, Jason Schrier is still doing the lords work over at Bloomberg, and their gaming coverage is a lot better than nothing which is what it used to be. For reference, Kotaku is now bad intentionally by design. It was previously owned and operated by Gawker Media, until psychopath Peter Thiel decided he didn’t like them reporting on him using his money to illegally solicit male prostitutes. He funded dozens of lawsuits against them, one being Hulk Hogan’s… until Gawker went bankrupt. Kotaku was then sold to a holding company and changed hands several times since. The site intentionally exists to run with a skeleton crew and suck so that a foreign company can sell a subsidiary’s ads at no cost, while reporting that the business operates at nearly no profit so that they can pay effectively no taxes, or in some cases even get government subsidies to meet their payroll. Landing on SEO searches and getting clicks is all that matters… which is why half the articles are “how to choose your weapon in Doki Slinky Batsu Crush 4”. For reference, the Canadian “Val” brand does this across industries - Valnet, Valsoft, ValStone, etc. None of their American holdings are legitimate businesses, but gutted husks of successful businesses that they use as fraud machines for free taxpayer dollars. They’ve assembled a massive swath of dogshit gaming and nerd websites that post AI garbage articles ad nauseam. someone who worked for them.

Kotaku · 72 · Metascore View All Reviews · Dec 15, 2025 · In 1991, a great opportunity was missed: the opportunity to make an action game for home consoles that captured the immense potential offered by the Terminator 2 license. But at long last, Bitmap Bureau has rectified this wrong with a game that almost feels like a classic of that bygone era.

I’ve been reading Kotaku daily for years but it’s gone so far downhill I just can’t do it anymore. The writing is terrible, it’s full of clickbait bullshit, and the site is so poorly optimized and full of ads that it runs like complete shit. Anyone have any good alternatives?

I watch gameranx on youtube. They post videos of before you buy, which gives you some expectations on games that are trending. But I mainly watch the upcoming games videos.
