Where should I go to get really great towels and bed sheets? I really want greatness, so let’s say that money isn’t a big deal. That said, I want my money to go into soft and luxurious feeling, not a fancy name - so don’t send me to Bed Bath and Rolls Royce unless you can vouch for the awesomeness of the product.
Wondering about Kotn’s quality as a brand. I’ve heard that their clothes are prone to a lot of shrinkage due to the material being 100% Organic cotton. Has anyone had similar or opposite experiences particularly for their tanks?

I don't expect bedsheets to last for life, but I do expect them to last more than two years. I rotate between three sets of sheets and 2/3 of the fitted sheets have split. Would love recommendations on cotton sheets that will last longer than two years.
Where do you buy good bedding? I’m talking like 600 thread count Egyptian cotton comforters and pillow case/shams sets?
I keep going through these polyester Walmart things and for somewhere I spend 1/3 of my life I want to splurge a little….
Looking for a set of king size bed sheets. I don’t really have a budget but would like something that’s considered good value. My current sheet set say they’re 100% cotton rich. I hate the feeling of silk so nothing like that please.
Hello. I am looking for a nice, cool, smooth set of bedsheets. What I want is something that is relatively cool, but also rests on the body and has a soft, smooth surface feel. I will state now that I honestly hate percale sheets- every time I've slept under them, usually in hotels, I've felt like is was sleeping under a plastic bag.
I am primarily considering Linen and Tencel/Lyocell -but I am willing to consider whatever other suggestions you may have. I'm not adverse to spending some money if that means quality- but I'm decidedly not interested in any of the super-premium, 1000$ + sets that are sometimes recommended.
Thanks in advance!
So I have:
Frette Long Cotton Percale sheet
And
Sferra Giza 45 Percale sheet
When I sleep with the Giza on as bottom and the long cotton on the top, the top layer feels like rough paper to the Giza 45
Giza 45 is insanely smooth for a percale weave—I get both cool and smooth. It’s pricey but after trying it I got a duvet cover too so I can have a full set
I’m not saying get a set, but if you just get a flat sheet to try it like I did, I think you can feel the difference. It’s was easily night and day when I compared it the way I did
I like Sijo eucalyptus sheets, and I've tried a lot of materials. They are smooth and cool. Ettitude has some nice sateen sheets that feel kinda like the sijo sheets. They seem to be the only ones that keep me from waking up sweaty.
So far I have been only looking at the type of bedding I want and I get what's available at the nearest department store. I was thinking about shopping online for those now and the market is saturated with different companies selling the same thing. I wanted to know some brands to look out for when I am browsing.
Make sure you measure you mattress dimensions. Cheaper sheets aren’t always sized right. ie. Bottom fitted sheet may not be deep enough to fit your mattress and tom sheets may be a couple of inches too short and or a couple of inches too narrow. Generally quality sheets are true to size printed on packaging. I typically but Macys ‘Hotel Collection’ and mix and match solids with patterned.
I now own a few sets and duvet covers from West Elm (bedding on sale now I believe) that I really like. I think at full price you can probably do better from what I've read, but they're usually quality no matter which fabric type.
Which is really the start of the question to me. What types of sheets have you used and are familiar with? What's your typical time on bed for a sheet set in between washes? Some people have two sets minimum which gets expensive out the gate.
You'll see online that sheets should be laundered weekly. Some fabrics hold up better than others with frequent washing. Most cotton and linen sheets soften over time and washes, but I had never had linen and splurged on a $200 throw from Bed Threads that feels like a burlap sack.
So honestly, this subject is deep and I'm by no means an expert. But I do like the cotton pecale and silky tencil sheets from West Elm.
Alright, ethical fashion team, I’m here in search of your feedback! I am in the market for some basics, mainly women’s t shirts and sweat pants. I’ve narrowed down my potential list to 2 options and I’m torn about where to spend those hard earned dollars.
If you have had experience with either of these brands, good or bad, I would love to hear from you!!!
I would also be quite happy to receive sizing advice, as my absolute least favorite thing is ordering something that doesn’t fit. For logistical reasons but more importantly for environmental ones!
(For reference re: fit. I stand 5 feet 4 inches tall, weigh 143 lbs. My bust is 38 inches, my waist is 32 inches, and my hips are 40 inches.)
Brief Summary of Environmental and Ethical Practices of Each Business:
Kotn is rated “Good” by the ethical fashion directory website, Good On You. Their website does not state that their cotton is organic, but Good On You says “it uses some eco-friendly materials including organic cotton”.
Kotn focuses on supply chain transparency, local production, and the rights of garment workers and cotton farmers.
Something cool that I didn’t realize is that Kotn donates a portion of all proceeds to The ABCs program in Egypt (local to where much of their cotton is grown).
The ABCs program is focused on building elementary schools in rural areas of Egypt in order to make education accessible for all children. They have decided to prioritize the rights of women by promoting girls’ attendance to their schools by instituting a 2:1 girl to boy ratio. To date, the program has funded the creation of 23 schools.
MATE the Label is rated “Great” by Good on You. The MATE website states that all their cotton is organic. They also claim to use non-toxic dyes and they recycle cutting scraps into new products.
One detail that really stood out to me in researching MATE is that most of the final stage of manufacturing takes place in Los Angeles, USA. As you guys know, it’s pretty rare that companies are willing to do this because workers in the USA generally have more rights and are compensated more fairly for their work.
Has anybody noticed the quality of new cotton sheets is much lower compared with sheets bought more than five years ago? Specifically they are much scratchier. I’ve bought a couple different brands of the “nicer” sheets recently to replace some older ones (Garnet Hill) and can’t believe how much worse they feel. Has anyone else noticed this? Is there any kind of reasonable solution? The two brands I recently bought were Macy’s Hotel Collection and when that was too scratchy I tried Peacock Alley, supposedly a high end brand, also very scratchy. What gives?
Hi, I wanted to share some of my experience for those looking for information.
You can read their about us to see what makes them ethical (note, not organic cotton)

This was KOTN band tee, men's.
Customer Service
The size chart on their website is 100% inaccurate, I have informed them in-store and online, the level of care was mild. They tried their best to explain there were mislabeling issues despite me showing them over and over the sizing chart was wrong on 2 different models and 2 different sizes (so 4 shirts in total). I did all the work, investigation, proof, they just needed to acknowledge and verify on their end and update the size.
Disappointed in how that was handled, though they were more than willing to help with the return. I, as a customer, had to point out to them that it is to their benefit to have the most precise information online given online shopping popularity and how it would reduce returns, increase sales, and help with brand loyalty and accuracy. And I was providing that information discrepancy for their benefit.
As for in-store, I get the people working in the store are in retail and kind of DGAF (like a "not my problem" or "I just work in the store") but it reflects poorly on the company that you'd just expect "more" from given their whole story that cares about the people it employs, quality, etc.
Growing pains of a new company I suppose, hopefully with time that'll be ironed out and it's a smooth better experience.
SIZING
Men's Size Guide Band Tee Online October 2020Sizing chart for BAND TEE MEN'S online is inaccurate. These are the exact measurements (FYI it looks like the Essentials men's tee size guide is more aligned with the measurements I got for the band tee)
Men Band tee SMALL
Website size guide: 58cm across chest of garment.
IRL measurement: 52cm.
After washing in cold water and hanging dry, it becomes 49.5cm. Account for 5% shrinkage.
Men Band tee MED:
website: 60cm across chest of garment, 74cm long
IRL: 54cm pre-washed, 73cm long
My BLACK TEE: After washing in cold water and hanging dry, 53cm washed across (maybe it didn't shrink as much because I had the washing machine very full with bed sheets) 1% shrinkage on 1st wash, 69cm long (shrank quite a bit in length) almost 6% shrinkage in length
Thoughts: Wondering if the mediums that were purchased had the fibres running in a different direction since I had a lot of shrinkage along the length and not across, and on the small, I had no shrinkage on the length but did encounter on the across.
WHITE TEE: shrank to 51.5cm across (even after I did a little pull & tug & wash was full) 4.9**% shrinkage again,** 71cm long
Women's Band tee Large:
also 54cm across (women vs men: sleeves are slightly shorter and angle outward a bit so it sort of flares out and length is 1inch shorter on women's)
Men Band LARGE:
Website: 63cm across chest
IRL: Unfortunately there was NONE in store
Would assume it's somewhere in between 54cm and 60cm
Thoughts**: they seem to run out of stock often, either they don't stock much/often and their backstore is small or it's really that popular even during quarantine. I visited a few times and the stores were out of stock for various sizes in women or men's each time so I wasn't able to make a full comparison nor base my buying decision on that and the size chart online is wrong so trying them in store one next to each other was the most reliable and important way and I wasn't able to**
TIP: call ahead to see if they have your colors & sizes in-store to put aside before making the trip
Men band tee XL:
Website: 66cm across chest
From memory it was 60cm across the chest but I can't be 100% sure
SHRINKAGE
See above note.
For the band tee, women or men's, estimate 5% shrinkage. If you wanna know what this will look after wash, if you're in store, you could try one size down and see how you like that fit. That's the best estimation you could get but keep in mind it's not the exact dimensions and it will stiffen after the 1st wash and will fall differently.
Size up (1 to 2 sizes)
Another reddit post with KOTN tee shrinkage: https://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/a363s4/kotn_tshirts_shrinkage/
Suggestions to minimize shrinkage (though it will still shrink the first wash):
wash cold
gentle wash (less agitation means garment is less affected)
hang dry
Additional tip: after wash, give it a few tugs along the shirt, width wise, length wise (you'll feel it) then dry it letting most of the garment hang (if it shrunk too much length wise) and you could recuperate 1in./2.5cm or so in length
Unlike their website my experience with this tee was different.
According to their site: https://kotn.com/about/care says shrink OR expands 1-2%. This information would be helpful in the description or in the size chart instead of being "hidden" elsewhere.. as a UX UI designer, I would have had this information visible. Clear.
and then here it says Says only will shrink 3-5% IF you throw it in the dryer. https://kotn.com/help
Small black men's Band tee washed: 49.5cm over small white men's band tee unwashed 52cm across. Measuring tape means I mean business.FEEL & FIT
This is a heavyweight. I love the feel of it, it's very different from my other tees that range from light thickness to medium light. This is like wearing a sweatshirt! That's why I got it.
NOTE: after washing, due to shrinking, it will get even more stiff. I tested one washed garment, one not, you could feel the difference, and see it when it falls on you.
Speaking of which: let's talk about fit. It will fall differently of course because it's thicker. I found I could go bigger on this tee than my others because it doesn't fall and flow the same but that's my personal preference.
Overall
Love my tee, once the sizing issues were "resolved". Size up (or 2) and you're good for the tees (and tops it seems).

Hope that helps!
New year new bedding wanted. My old ones are raggedy and thinking finally time to upgrade. Would prefer King Size. Budget - would prefer to stay $250-300. Please feel free to share links!
Since BBB has closed, I'm not really sure where to look. Today I went to the Bay (iffy selection , associates not so knowledgeable). Quilts ETC, pricey but knowledgeable, had some bedding from them before but had problems with duvet bleeding colour when washed as per instructions of the associate. Homesense and Marshall’s alot of mis matches, poor selection of sheets and comforters. Is there some hidden gem I am missing? I just want something luxuriously soft and cool (temperature) to crawl into at the end of the day. I miss the selection and one stop shop of BBB. Budget isn't a concern and looking to turn my bed more into a comfy "luxury hotel" like experience. Plus have an animal and cheap sheets tend to attract hair more than higher end sheets, in my experience.
My IG feed has been getting bombarded with ads for KOTN. Have never used this brand and a quick online search shows mixed reviews. Has anyone actually purchased anything from this brand and if so, what has been your experience? Is the quality good?
Hey all,
I recently ordered a new Queen bed and am getting rid of all my old stuff - pillows, sheets, comforter, etc. I am in a position to do a bit of a splurge, and want to get nicer sheets with a higher threadcount, compared to somewhere like Ikea, which is good, but not a splurge. I like Kotn's offerings, but all the dark colours I love are out of stock. I don't have time to wait until they are back in stock, it's been awhile already.
Questions:
Are there good Homesense/Winners to go to for bedding in the GTA?
Do you like the stuff from Simon's?
Do you recommend another online shop like Kotn, if so, which?
Also, where do you get your higher quality pillows and duvets?
Appreciate any and all help on this matter, I've already asked my friends and this is where I'm at now.
Update 1: Wow! I didn't expect so many replies. Thank you all so much for your help! I'll reply to individual comments as best I can.
Update 2: Again, I want to thank everyone for your suggestions. I found plenty of sheets that I like, although not many within my budget. Everything is so expensive these days... I've decided on these floral Opalhouse/Jungalow sheets that I think will go well with my comforter. Here's hoping I get my money's worth out of them.
...
Every recommendation I found on old posts and on other sites is for plain white or otherwise bland sheets; what I consider too ugly to spend money on. I checked the brands stores on Amazon and couldn't find anything I like even a little bit.
The colors/patterns I really want don't come in king size because they're for kids, but I have been able to find stuff I like by putting "Bohemian", "Moroccan", or (I just learned about this one) "groovy" in the search criteria. The problem is the reviews don't often mention durability. So if anyone knows of any durable brands that sell non-bland sheets, or of any brands I should avoid, it would really help me.
Mom wants new sheets for Christmas. I want to surprise her with a nice set. She has one specific request: no pilling!
Any recommendations from those who have had their sheets a while and know if they’re the type to pill?
(Pilling = little fuzz balls that form on the material over time)
Edit; thanks for all your suggestions. I will be going with Red Land Cotton after reading many of those suggestions and then looking into them. Only shame now is that the color she picked is out of stock. Ah well, email alert it is.
