I don't think it necessarily needs to be the most luxury item ever but I do think that loungewear and sleepwear tend to be the scruffiest items we own - usually full of "downgrades", ripped or stained items or just plain old worn out pieces that we don't really see a need to replace. I found that the clothes I wear around my house (which is where I spend most of my time while temporarily working from home) were pretty sad and that I didn't feel super great in them. Old leggings, random hand me down shirts, grubby socks of mysterious origin... I spent a bit of time thinking about what I actually want to wear at home and either moved items from my "main" closet that I liked but were never my first pick, or I bought items to replace the worn ones I was using. Work from home clothes in the summer for me are usually loose dresses, and I have lots of those so I'm set. But in winter I keep my house cold so I tend to wear a layering shirt, a sweater, cozy pants, socks, and slippers. I didn't want to use this as an excuse to do a huge shop because I do love to use anything as an excuse, so what I did buy was two pairs of sweatpants, one pair of fleecy leggings, some new cozy cashmere socks and a pair of slippers. I brought out a few t-shirts that I really like the design of but never wear out and relegated them to homewear – I've been getting a lot more wear out of them this way. Okay, I have very strong opinions on pajamas, perhaps unreasonably so. You are going to be wearing your PJs much more often, and just much more in general, than almost all but your most basic layering items, so I buy the nice stuff. I got so tired of PJs from places like Target and Old Navy just pilling instantly and falling apart on me...ugh. And retiring old clothes was cheap, but sleeping in stained old clothes was just depressing. No more. When I'm reaching the end of a long day, I want to wear something soothing and soft and pretty or fun that helps me fall asleep. The nice stuff can be expensive so I ask for PJs for Christmas or birthday gifts. My favorite places to get PJs: Uniqlo. Their Relaco shorts for spring/summer (almost all out of stock now) have lasted me all season with no sign of wear. Very affordable and great quality. Garnet Hill. A good gift item. Their shorts set , pants set and night gowns are lovely. Great sets to take on vacation or when you're visiting relatives because they're not see through or too short or tight. LL Bean.
