The syntax you're looking for:

lambda x: True if x % 2 == 0 else False

But you can't use print or raise in a lambda.

You may be better just writing a normal function if it gets too complicated to understand, but for the sake of learning: something['SomeVariable'].apply(lambda x: dosomething() if isinstance(x, str) else dosomethingelse()) More on reddit.com

can I use an if statement with a lambda function?
It helps to debug if you split your 1 liner into multiple variable steps at each function. I haven't worked with python but it appears the problem may be in your last map. It appears what you want is to filter for len(x['pdd_list']) == 0 in a filter function. .map(lambda x: x['pdd_list']) . filter(lambda x: len(x['pdd_list'])==0) More on reddit.com

Lambda With Conditional Statements in Python - AskPython
December 31, 2021 - Let’s look at a few examples of the lambda function. ... The code is simple. We first create a lambda object as add. Then we store two parameters inside the lambda expression. These parameters are two numbers that are for the addition operation. After that in the colon, we place the addition expression in front of the colon. ... Using the lambda with if-else conditions is a useful technique.

February 25, 2025 - For more complex conditional logic, you can nest if statements within a lambda function. This allows for multiple conditions to be evaluated in a single expression. Here’s how you can implement this: nested_if_lambda = lambda x: "Positive" if x > 0 else ("Negative" if x < 0 else "Zero") result1 = nested_if_lambda(10) result2 = nested_if_lambda(-5) result3 = nested_if_lambda(0) print(result1) print(result2) print(result3)

April 21, 2026 - Separate them with commas, just like a regular function: (lambda x, y, z: x + y + z)(3, 8, 1) # Output: # 12 · A lambda can also return multiple values by wrapping them in a tuple: (lambda x, y: (x + y, x * y))(3, 4) # Output: # (7, 12) You can use conditional logic inside a lambda too. A single if/else is perfectly readable and common in practice:
