I'm becoming a fan of ornamental grasses in the landscape. They are some of my favorite perennials, especially into the winter months.

Has anyone had success with planting ornamental grasses as a hedge row? Trying to decide which variety will work best. I need 4’tall at least, and will need them to be trimmable.
The first are Feather Reed Grass 'Karl Foerster. And they do exactly what the picture shows in full sun. They stay neat and can be easily trimmed over winter. More on reddit.com

I thought ornamental grasses were nearly indestructible…
As warm season grasses, the maiden hair will just be getting going. But your carex generally prefers a wetter, shadier environment than you’ve got there. So it’s possible they might not come back. The pine needles are not likely to be a problem. They are actually a very popular mulch! The weed guard doesn’t help anything, and if your grasses were planted on top of it instead of through it, then it could be restricting their root development. ETA so to answer your questions no yes, but may need watering through the summer maybe More on reddit.com
