September 5, 2024Has anyone had success with planting ornamental grasses as a hedge row? Trying to decide which variety will work best. I need 4’tall at least, and will need them to be trimmable.
The first are Feather Reed Grass 'Karl Foerster. And they do exactly what the picture shows in full sun. They stay neat and can be easily trimmed over winter. More on reddit.com

As warm season grasses, the maiden hair will just be getting going. But your carex generally prefers a wetter, shadier environment than you’ve got there. So it’s possible they might not come back. The pine needles are not likely to be a problem. They are actually a very popular mulch! The weed guard doesn’t help anything, and if your grasses were planted on top of it instead of through it, then it could be restricting their root development.
