I have a high-end gaming laptop (ROG Strix Scar 16, RTX 4080) and I’m wondering if it’s worth buying a cooling pad.
Some people say cooling pads reduce temps by 5–10°C, especially during gaming or rendering, while others say they’re useless or even push more dust into the laptop and clog the vents over time.
So I’m genuinely confused.

I’ve seen a bunch of cooling pads on Amazon but not sure if they actually work or just make noise.
I use an RTX 4060 laptop (Lenovo Legion) and during gaming it gets really warm — especially on the left palm rest and under the GPU side.
Does anyone here use a cooling pad that made a noticeable difference? Not expecting miracles, just better temps or comfort would be good.
Open to suggestions if you’ve tested any under $50. Bonus if it’s quiet and has USB passthrough.

Llano V12 / V10 – most common pick, sealed suction design, noticeable 7–10°C temp drop for gaming laptops.
Flydigi BS2 Pro – quieter alternative with similar cooling performance, good for long sessions with headphones.
Klim Everest – solid mid-range option, decent cooling and multiple speed levels, not too expensive.
IETS GT500 – very strong cooling performance, but louder compared to others.
Klim Turbofrost – high-end option that occasionally goes on sale, similar performance tier to Llano.
I’m looking to buy a cooling pad for my Laptop. I’m new to this so I don’t know which would be best. With what I’ve researched I found these two to be convincing, but if there is any better ones out there I’d like to know. My laptop is a Predator Helios 18. Out of these two, which is best?

My laptop gets very hot when playing some games. Like burning hot. I know that's usually okay, but I don't mind spending some money for a cooling pad. It'd raise the laptop and make typing more comfortable for me as well.
What cooling pads do you guys use?

I got the Flydigi BS2 Pro as you guys said and I've been using it for a few days now. It's quiet af and cools down the CPU by about 20 degrees when I'm playing heavy games like Cyberpunk.
I ordered this cooling pad for my 2070 and i7 10750h laptop, as it tends to run hot, cpu in upper 90s.
Do you think these actually cool down the laptop with the fans, or is the biggest difference with these that the laptop gets more air, cause it's lifted up and not on the mousepad / desk?

I've been using the GT300 cooling pad for almost 2 years and I can say that it's surely the best one out there. I've bought and tried many of the highest reviewed ones on Amazon but none came close to this one. I have the MSI GP76 Leopard gaming laptop and I really wanted to keep it performing optimally and to last long so I tried many different coolers. One of the main features that makes this cooling pad amazing is it's rubber ring that creates a seal between it and the base of the laptop so that air is forced into the vents for efficient cooling. Another great feature is the polyurethane dust filter so you literally never have to worry about dust clogging up the laptop fans.l recently opened up my laptop to repaste for better thermals and I was very happy to see that there was zero dust accumulation. There's an updated version called the GT500 which I excitedly bought and tried but I still think this is better because it's much quieter.
I have the GT500 and while it does cool, it is loud. Maybe I need to try the 300?
I think the main problem is that they cheaped out on the motors. The 500 has an awesome design of function but then just cheaps out on everything else: controls are on the side (hard to get to) and just has a cheap ass spin wheel, and the fan sounds like crap (loud crap if you crank it) and just cheap honestly. If they dropped a bit of their profit into quality fan and front controls it would be amazing.
I bought 5 gaming cooling pads and tested the cooling, build quality and comfort for use in bed or on the couch.

TopMate C12 Cooling Pad Good build quality, comfortable and cooled the device 20 degrees Fahrenheit from having it on my lap or bed. It is adjustable with cool RBG lighting if you need it. You can turn lights off and on and adjust the fan speed. Wrists can get scratched by the non-slip baffles if you have a small thin 13/14”laptop. I put rubber feed on my laptop to raise it up a little. I paid $30.

You can turn lights off and on and adjust the fan speed. This had a bad fan bearing so I returned it. Like a cheaper C15 with a different metal pattern. I paid $25.

Reviews say they broke with bed & couch use. I liked the small size but you couldn’t see the RGB as well if that matters.

How do laptops, specifically gaming laptops, benefit from using a cooling pad ? From what i've found, cooling pads seem to provide better airflow and cooler temperatures, does this improve performance ?
I've also read that cooling pads may damage your laptop because they blow dust into it as well as making your laptop's fans spin faster.
As for dust, if you place your cooling pad and your laptop on a clean surface free of dust, then there shouldn't be any problem right ? My only concern is with cooling pads making laptop's fans spin faster, is it true ? If so, does it really damage the fans in the long run ?
After considering everything, are cooling pads worth it ?

Recently purchased an Omen 17, and looking for a stand/cooling pad that would reduce the overall noise while also provide a better viewing angle. I usually have this unit on a mousepad, so it attracts quite a bit of dust.
I would be up for re-applying thermal paste and pads, but that would void the manuf extended warranty I paid for.

Either grab a GT500 cooling pad. Or an looklike from Ebay/Aliexpress. Or just go for a simple laptop stand that can actually raise the laptop up a lot more than a cooling pad for better ergonomics. All the other ones may look cool but they barely works if at all. Be warned though, the GT500 style cooling pad is very loud on max setting-you can change the fan speeds but of course quieter fans means less effective, but the other ones will just create more noise at no real improvement to your airflow.
The common laptop cooler designs are all next to useless, especially for gaming laptops of nowadays, Jarrod's Tech did a review on a lot of gaming laptop coolers quite a while back and the results were a few degree cooler at best and a simple laptop stand without fans does almost as good as ones with fans, and that was with like 2,3 year old machines.
New laptops since last generation? I dont think Ive seen one that actually had any sort of major cooling problems from reviews. Sure, some may run hotter than others but in all except a few cases where one is stress testing the cpu+gpu they always never throttle to a degree that would require an external cooler just to perform 'as expected'.
Have it on a laptop stand, regularly clean your fans and maybe repaste once every year and you will be all set. Especially since you are already undervolting your laptop.

I recently bought a gaming laptop.
Even though I already own a cooling pad and have been using it (4 fans, 120mm and 1200RPm each, and a CFM of 75), I want to buy a better one. So, my question is: What are the most important characteristics of a cooling Pad?
Is it the RPM of the fans, the number of fans, the CFM (which I think it's the amount of air it "produces"), or how much mm the fans are?
I am currently in dought as for buying one of these 3:
Cooling Pad Number 1: Cooler Master Notepad XL with one big single fan (230mm), 600-1000 RPM, and, a CFM of 89,8.
Cooling Pad Number 2: Ewent Notebook Cooling EW1259 with 5 fans (1 big, and 4 smaller ones), 1000-2500 RPM, and, a CFM of 80. (Unfortunately, I could not find how many mm the fans are, only that they have 7cm of diameter).
Cooling Pad Number 3: Mars Gaming MNBC5 RGB, which I could not find any details about, besides only knowing it has 6 fans.

I have a Lenovo Legion Pro 5i. I’ve just started playing games on it and it’s gets quite hot so Icl e decided to buy a cooling pad with fans. The main reason for buying the pad was because I’d like to have the laptop slightly elevated when I use and, and I thought that having some extra airflow underneath would be good for keeping temperatures low.
However, I’m not sure if I should actually use the fans built into the pad as I’m concerned that this may disrupt the laptop’s normal cooling system, or perhaps rotate the laptop fans more than they should causing damage.
From what I understand the Legion’s cooling works by sucking in cool air from under the device, then pushing out the hot air through the side/rear vents. Hence why I’m worried about the cooling pad fans potentially disrupting this and causing damage.
