How does RAM affect a laptop's performance?
What are the storage options in budget laptops?
What processor types are common in budget laptops?
Things I'm looking for:
• Windows, preferably not Chromebook
• The SSD isn't very important but it needs access for external storage via USB
• Gaming is rudimentary of course, I just want something better than the average Android Tablet
• Any suggestions are appreciated.
- Thank You.
Hey there, my previous HP Envy laptop just broke and I'm looking to replace it fairly quickly since finals are in about 2 weeks and I need a laptop for taking online tests in the exam room. I never really used my laptop for anything besides notes, essays, YouTube, and Balatro occasionally, so as long as it can do that I'm happy. I also tend to transport my laptop loose in my bag, so I would prefer something that can take a beating.

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: Under $200 USD
-
Are you open to refurbs/used?: Yes
-
How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? I highly prioritize build quality over all else, don't really care about battery life or performance, and I hate touchscreens and 2-in-1's.

How important is weight and thinness to you? Not too important, I don't mind bulky but it has to fit in a backpack
-
Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A
-
Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. As long as it can run Google well I'm happy, don't use it for really anything else
-
If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Balatro if possible

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Reliable build is my main point of focus, again I try to take care of my stuff but I just want a Laptop that wont break in 2-4 years.

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.- I was hoping to have it in hand in at least 2 weeks if that matters, but I would prioritize a better laptop over faster shipping if it came down to it. I am really just looking for the bare minimum here that isn't so cheap that it will break down from daily use.
I know this is a tight budget, but can someone recommend to me (factoring in around 30 dollars shipping) a good used laptop in 2024 for this price? My requirements are:
- Business laptop (I don't want the unreliable garbage that consumer laptops are these days, as I value longevity)
- Atleast 8 GB of RAM and SSD (I know 256 and less isn't enough for me, but I'll just replace that then.
-CPU with atleast 2000 on geekbench 5 multicore.
-Atleast 1080p IPS panel.
-Replaceable SSD and RAM
Thats pretty much it, I'm upgrading from a Dell Latitude E6520, old, I know, but it's an absolute tank, and thanks to its upgradability it's actually better than most sub-500 dollar laptops today, even though it's from 2011 I think, so hopefully I can get a good one for this priced.
