I don’t think raising money is a victory lap. Also consider Laravel is essentially run by one person while Django is a non profit run by a community. Different approaches.

Let's see if Laravel users think the investment was a good idea in 3 - 5 years. VC doesn't give you $57 M to make the product better, it's to monetize it. It's to make Laravel worth $1B. Many of the things they will have to do to make that money and see that growth are going to be detrimental to the average Laravel user.
