Costco has a good selection. I got a super cheap/thin 6x9 indoor/outdoor rug for $20 a few months ago. Answer from Ojja on reddit.com

I did happen to find a few options on Amazon but I’m looking for some bigger ones. I got one for 20 bucks that’s 5x9.

I’m just trying to cover the basement floor. It can literally any style color texture etc, just need big ones like 6x9- or bigger. I have a lot of area to cover.

I haven't had much luck looking for large rugs on FB and eBay - even gave the old Craigslist a try.

Not looking for artisanal level Persian rug quality but struggling to find decent ones that aren't overly expensive.

Where is a good place to find decent large rugs these days?

Edit: Thank you everyone! We ended up ordering a couple of rugs from Bed bath and beyond / Overstock.

I’ve been looking for an 8x10 rug but I can’t find any for less than $200. Any tips for what kind of sales to check for or places to look for used ones? My FB Marketplace isn’t offering much help sadly, and I’m not sure where else to go. Do big box stores ever have mega rug sales lol? I’m looking for your standard red oriental rug, if that helps at all. Thank you for any advice!!

Hi all!

My HOA has a requirement for each home to be 85% covered by rugs. I'm struggling finding large rugs for cheap. Facebook market place is failing me, so I've come here.

An exception is Southeastern Salvage Home Emporium - huge mammoth size rugs for $100. I mean its really remarkable if anyone lives in Tenneessee and has been there. But I'm moving out of the state and don't want to pay for shipping something so huge.

Edit: I have now learned the word for huge rug is area rug.

Hello Frugal Army!

Any suggestions on where to purchase extra large area rugs for cheap and reasonable prices? I've shared a house with my sister for a while now, and I chose the basement as my half of the house (considering she has kids, it was the best decision). I'd love to make it feel warm and cozy. Any suggestions?

Hi everyone! I am moving soon to a pre-war building and need to cover like 70% of my floors with rugs. I have some pretty large rooms like 12'x17' and also need a couple of runners. I am finding it hard to find large rugs that are affordable (<300) each. Do y'all have any recommendations? If I have to suck it up and spend more for something that's higher quality I guess I can save up for it but not thrilled about the idea lol. I also have 2 cats so probably looking for ones that are lower pile and easier to maintain.

Designer here, Less than 300 for a rug pad alone for that size isn't outrageous, and you you do actually need rug pads for comfort, noise & longevity. For that size rug at a lower cost you probably need to go to a carpet store, find a remnant you like & have the store bind it. This will be significantly less expensive than trying to find a similar sized area rug (and it will be custom). To save money on runners in lower traffic areas you can usually get away with jute/sisal, which go with everything. That said they are pretty impossible to clean so if your cats spray or you are always spilling/having parties, skip them all together. Jute/Sisal would also be a good choice as a base/starter rug and you can layer nicer quality smaller rugs on top as you find them. This look is not for everyone, but can look really great. Most designers will tell you to buy natural fiber rugs (like wool & silk) but that simply isn't always true or practical. If you are starting with nothing, I would only tell you to "invest" in a bedroom rug. Environmental impact aside, Higher quality viscose and polypropylene are totally okay (especially in heavily used spaces), faux silk is the easiest to replicate in solid colors. Overstock is great for this, have excellent customer service, & they ship free on larger sizes! https://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Alexander-Home-Isabelle-Traditional-Vintage-Border-Area-Rug/27283580/product.html?refccid=EZNNM2226F4LNUKFUNDNBWG6PA&osp=true&lyceumGuid=57e7df45-da2b-4394-a919-144aa6613b33&searchidx=1&option=46062811 https://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Alexander-Home-Isabelle-Traditional-Vintage-Border-Area-Rug/27283571/product.html?refccid=EZNNM2226F4LNUKFUNDNBWG6PA&osp=true&lyceumGuid=57e7df45-da2b-4394-a919-144aa6613b33&searchidx=26&option=46062782 here are two examples of low pile, easy care 9x12 rugs for $265 and 255 respectively, that I have used in clients homes & look great...Shipping is insane on large rugs, and returns are a PITA so I encourage you to stick with more neutral choices. Obviously, buy what you like. https://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Safavieh-Handmade-Natural-Fiber-Barbados-Chunky-Thick-Jute-Rug-6-x-9/4382770/product.html?refccid=EZNNM2226F4LNUKFUNDNBWG6PA&searchidx=27&option=7506792 This is a 2.6x10 runner for about 75 dollars. As far as customer service, R ugs.com is great, Rugsusa.com is not. Boutiquerugs.com is very hit or miss. Safavieh is a huge brand with excellent quality rugs and are usually priced affordably, you can find them everywhere including Amazon. IMHO"Ruggable" products would be extremely overpriced, for a single person with cats. Vintage is great but can be way more costly as well as time consuming. Etsy is your best friend for smaller rugs & runners. If you have access to one, HomeGoods often has higher quality wool rugs in larger sizes around your price point, but mostly in standard sizes like 5x7 & 8x10. 9x12 and 10x14 are rare and get snatched up pretty quick. Feel free to ask me any design questions, I'm going though cancer treatment and bored as hell! Congrats on your new place! HTH!

October 3, 2021 - I would start with ebay. Also consider kilim rugs - they are hard-wearing, often cheaper than tufted rugs and you can either wash them yourself or take them to be cleaned relatively cheaply once in a while.

November 17, 2020 - RugsUSA.com I got so many soft great rugs for so cheap! ... You can go to a wall to wall carpet company and ask to have a custom size made one, since that size you are asking is not very common and may be around 3k in price. Otherwise, for large rugs I really recommend to splurge on the rug and on rug pag because since it is so large corners will flip, they wont sit flat, etc.

September 27, 2019 - I had the best luck on Bed Bath and Beyond just purchased a 7x10 beautiful rug from there for $65. It’s beautiful! Best price I could find ... I get most of mine at Overstock. If you catch a sale, the prices on larger rugs can be really good.

I have some wool rugs that I got from Overstock (now Bed Bath & Beyond) that have worn super well. They are made by Surya and Safavieh. FYI that many sites like Wayfair change the name of the manufacturer/model, so if you find a rug you like, use Google Lens to find the same rug at the best price. My best tip on purchasing big rugs online is to ALWAYS buy the 2x3 version first if you are picky about colors. That way you don't end up with a giant rug that you hate and a huge hassle to return it.

Rugs costing that much is normal, but there ARE rugs that are less expensive and still good! Things that will influence price include materials and how the rugs are made. Genuine traditional Persian rugs are hand woven or hand knotted and made from natural material (usually wool, sometimes cotton or silk) and then hand dyed. The process takes a long time and the materials are high quality and as a result these rugs are EXPENSIVEEEEEEEEEE. Ways you can get the look of Persian rugs while cutting down on cost - you can get rugs still made of wool but that are machine loomed and dyed. You can get machine made wool rugs that are “screen printed” instead of woven of differently dyed fibers. And you can get artificial rugs from synthetic materials in Persian colors and patterns. You can also look secondhand! Places like Craigslist turn up some real gems sometimes. I have some good, large wool rugs I paid a few hundred dollars for new. I also have some large synthetic rugs I paid around a hundred dollars for new. I don’t own any hand woven and hand dyed rugs because I do not have that much money lol. Overstock, wayfair, that kind of thing, are honestly great for rugs - just read descriptions and reviews carefully.
