What are some popular large and tall houseplants?
Popular large and tall houseplants can make a bold statement and serve as focal points in a room. Some examples of popular large houseplants include the Fiddle Leaf Fig (Ficus lyrata), which features large, glossy leaves, and the Monstera deliciosa, known for its iconic fenestrated leaves. The Rubber plant (Ficus elastica) is another popular choice with its thick, shiny leaves. Other tall houseplants include the Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia reginae), which produces striking, tropical flowers.
How do I care for large and tall houseplants?
Caring for large and tall houseplants involves providing them with proper light, water, and maintenance. Most large houseplants thrive in bright, indirect light, although specific light requirements may vary. Watering should be done when the top inch or two of soil feels dry, ensuring not to overwater or let the plant sit in standing water.
Additionally, regular dusting or cleaning of the leaves is important to keep them free from dust, which can hinder photosynthesis. Fertilise these plants every few months with a balanced, water-soluble fertiliser, following the package instructions.
How do I provide support for large and tall houseplants?
Some large and tall houseplants may require support to help them stay upright as they grow. This is especially important for indoor plants with top-heavy growth or those with thin, weak stems. Stakes or plant supports can be used to provide stability and prevent the plant from bending or toppling over. Carefully insert the stake into the soil near the base of the plant and gently tie the stems to the stake using soft ties or plant clips. Be mindful not to tie too tightly, allowing the large houseplant room to grow and expand naturally.

As much as I love greenery and plants in my space, I’ve never really been able to keep plants alive.. I was gifted a snake plant 2 years ago and she is thriving! She has a self watering pot and i’ve only repotted her once. However, a few months ago I was gifted a majesty palm. Last wee, she got sun scorched and I snipped off the dry yellow parts and limited sunlight for a few days. While that problem cleared up, today I noticed brown leaves and spider mites. I’ve isolated and plan on spraying and cleaning her off, but I feel like I’m already doomed. Any time I’ve tried caring for plants in the past (following everything I could find on the plants needs) my brown thumb just curses it.
I don’t want to just not have real plants, but I don’t want to keep killing them either (also don’t really just want a house of snake plants…)
Does anyone recommend an easy to care for plant that’s pretty nice size?
