how much research have you done into plant care? my mum has this cycle of getting a new plant, roughly following the instructions on the label, the plant dies, my mum assumes she has a black thumb and gives up until she gets the next one. i don't mean to be condescending if you have researched, it's just a lot of people don't realise how much more information is out there than just a few symbols on a label some corners can be pretty decently lit - eg i have a window that gets afternoon sun and the corner next to it has enough to keep most plants happy spring through autumn, at least. for darker corners, cast iron plants or aglaonema might be a good choice. zz plants and snake plants tolerate a wide range of light conditions. pothos is another good choice, you can get one grown on a pole to put on the floor. of these i know cast iron plant is non toxic, and snake plant is very hard to chew lol. i also think it's a great idea to use an app to measure your light levels, it takes a few seconds but it's such a gamechanger. if a spot is getting less than 150 foot candles throughout the day i wouldn't put a plant there. In my opinion a Sansevieria plant is the easiest.
There are several varieties and they can handle bright light to low light.
I found several cool varieties on Etsy that are thriving in a low light spot in my house. They are drought tolerant and don't need to be repotted often.

Honestly? Just walk into any flower or plant store and have a look around. Pick one that looks beautiful to you and take him home. If it dies it dies and you’ll just have to get another one, but if it doesn’t then you’ll have a plant that looks beautiful to you.

There’s really nothing inherently difficult about taking care of a plant either. For the most part the houseplants you’ll find for sale in general don’t want direct light, and you simply water them when the top part of the soil is dry. Depending on a lot of conditions that might be once a week, or twice a week, etc, it’s impossible to say. The most important thing is that you need to have a pot that has holes on the bottom for the excess water to drain out.

I say this as someone who just started growing houseplants last year. I spent so much time reading blog posts and reddit posts for recommendations, and even more time looking everything up to make sure I can handle it, and in the end none of it has actually mattered because my first plant was just something I saw in the flower shop at the train station one day when I was going home. I bought him… and now I have over 20 plants of different species and only one of them has died.

In short, don’t worry about it. Just get one that looks nice and go from there :)

Edit: If you have an IKEA by you that’s another place you can look too. I’ve gotten a couple of my plants from them.

The plants I like the most in my collection are the ones with the biggest leaves… so all of the philodendrons. There’s just something about those big leaves that I really like.
