The premiere latex mattress company in Canada is Obasan. They’re based in Ottawa, I know that’s not nearby, but maybe they’re more generous with disro/showrooms in your neck of the woods. https://obasan.com/ Latex runs hella firm, and if you’re doing any side sleeping at all, I would go medium. I had to go ultra plush to mimic my OG Casper, which is, imho, a true 5/10 on the firmness scale. I am on a Posh and Lavish. Answer from dad_wont_let_me on reddit.com

r/Mattress on Reddit: best latex mattresses in Canada (i'm in N Van) anyone bought one from north shore linens?
July 1, 2023 -

I'm searching to replace my 16 yr plus (flippable) mattress...also am considering Mr Mattress here in Vancouver BC....or bought one from North Shore linens for their latex mattress: https://www.northshorelinens.com/dunlop-latex-mattresses/

can anyone suggest any other places...i'm 200 lb (have to lose 30lb) and am both a side and back sleeper..

a few other questions, please:

-how thick do i need it (would be just for me) 6'' or 8'' ? ...and I can I still rotate/flip it each 2 mo or so to extend longevity?.

-and when buying a platform for a latex mattress i am told to ensure the slats are not more than 3-6'' or so in space from one another...any good shops to buy such (again in in the lower mainland, BC)

-i have back issues and also can sleep hot: so would medium or firm be best (my current bed is plus with a pillow top)...i like something that has support but also give and conforms to my back

thanks!

I'm super tall & 200lbs, my partner is average height & 120lbs. Both of us are both side & stomach sleepers (maybe 60/40) I have a lower back pain issue for the past 2 years so I'm looking for a suitable Latex Mattress. My partner prefers good support too.

No partner disturbance is a must - I tend to move a lot so in case of regular mattresses (like spring / foam) it wakes her up easily.

Budget is around CAD1500, but mainly need a mattress that's easily available in Canada. US has so many options but Canada doesn't :/

The few times ive looked into latex mattresses in Canada they all seemed to run a little more expensive than in the US. The main online discount retailer that I found was Memmorycomfort.ca . Their all latex and latex hybrids all still run about CAD2200+. Well they sell a latex mattress that is just a 6" 40ILD core for CAD2k. Also think their firmness ratings run a bit low, I dont think a 40ILD core with a 2" soft topper is a medium mattress, and a 40ILD core alone should be firm, not a medium-firm. Just another thing to keep in mind if you go that route, but with latex mattresses most people are pretty open to just adding a latex topper if they feel its too firm.

We are going to make the leap and get a king mattress but since this is my first time buying my own mattress im feeling quite overwhelmed. I want something that will last but that will also give a good sleep.

For context we are both average weight and six or so feet tall. Side and stomach sleepers. We want something firm but maybe with a bit of pillow top and since we both are warm sleepers we want to avoid memory foam. I’ve read through the mattress FAQ guide on this sub and im leaning toward latex but don’t know that I’ve ever slept on one, what to consider, what brands to look for etc. can anyone provide some experiences suggestions advice?

Hi Guys!

My husband and I were looking at all latex mattresses today and fell in love, but sadly the cost is above our budget. The mattress would run at least 4K, and the highest we really want to go is about 2K. I have read a lot about diymattress.net in the States, but I don't think they ship to Canada. Do we have any equivalent here?

Does anyone have any suggestions for all latex mattresses that they have purchased and are loving?

It is important to me for it to be organic and all-natural latex. We tested out a 9" and an 11" GreenSleep mattress today and they were all Dunlop latex, with 3-4" of firm on the bottom, 3-4" medium in the middle and 3" soft on the top with the ability to switch those around for comfort level.

Thanks in advance! :)

If you can switch layers around that's great Sleep On Latex has great natural latex mattresses...they will sell you a topper at half off if u need to adjust the firmness

Naturelle has latex mattresses based out of Ontario I think and it's one of the cheapest for latex beds I've found. With that said I owned one of their dunlop latex mattresses with 3 layers, medium on top, medium in the middle and firm on the bottom and even as a medium it was hard as a rock to sleep on. I wanted to exchange the top layer for a soft layer instead which they said they'd do but then they wanted me to pay shipping to return the one layer and get another which they didn't tell me ahead of time. If I had got the soft it may have been better but I ended up having to use a memory foam topper on top. It was then I decided I didn't like the feel of latex and sold it and bought a memory foam mattress instead. So my suggestion is make sure you like the feel of latex first and you know what firmness to get before ordering as even soft latex can feel firm unless you use different materials for the different layers. Soft on top would at least be better than what I had. I just ordered a DLX mattress which has one layer of latex but also had a layer of memory foam and 2 layers of polyfoam you can switch around and choose the firmness of and I'm hoping it will be the right combination I'm looking for. They also have a latex mattress with 3 latex layers and a polyfoam layer on the bottom. They are under $1000 but the shipping would be extra to Canada.

r/Mattress on Reddit: Shopping for a latex hybrid mattress in Canada (GTA specifically), thoughts on these options?
February 28, 2025 -

Hi all, looking to replace our well worn pocket spring mattress, it was an Ikea hybrid with memory foam on top. My partner generally wants a firm mattress, I want a slightly more soft. I sleep on my back mostly but sometimes my side. After some amount of research, I am leaning to trying a latex hybrid mattress. Queen size.

I would really appreciate any thoughts or comments!

My top consideration is this one so far:

$729 https://hardcoremattress.ca/product/the-14-crown-hybrid-latex-pocket-coil-mattress/

Futher detail on specs here , from another store but appears to be the same. Assembly as follows:

  • 2" Aerated Talalay Latex Foam

  • 2″ Medium Firm Foam Topper

    • can't find specs on exactly what this is but assume some type of memory foam

    • this is the layer I am questioning the most, as not sure if it would make the assembly be too soft or sleep hot, seems that just latex over coils might be better

  • 1100 5- Zone Pocket Coil Support Core

    • can't find further specs on the coils

    • assume 9" based on total assembly height

I also like the price point, but can't find many reviews about the company and more importantly the mattress, so would be a bit more blind considering their is no showroom.

The 7/10 “Plush Firm” sounds about right, I would guess the mix of foam and latex would be a bit softer than only latex and coils, and the talalay also a bit more soft then dunlop latex. So maybe this is a good hedge.

$1,400 This one seems like a bit more ideal of an assembly, but more expensive.

$2,195 Even more expensive but appreciate the flexiblity of layers

$600 Briefly considered this, but it is the same price point as the crown, but less 1" of latex and the dunlop variety. Though if I went with non latex hybrid this store has a lot of options and a showroom.

Many thanks for your input.

r/Mattress on Reddit: Naturelle Latex Mattress Review
March 22, 2024 -

I've recently been relying a lot on this subreddit to purchase a new mattress. I'd heard so much about latex mattresses and they ticked a lot of the boxes I was looking for: better with heat retention, long lasting, and supportive (I'm approx. 210lbs, side sleeper). I looked into a lot of options and eventually decided to pull the trigger on a Naturelle mattress. I'm located in Canada so this may not be super relevant to those of you not located here but from what I read, they source their latex mattresses (Dunlop) from Latex Green and I believe lots of companies use Latex Green.

I also saw a lot of really sketchy and negative reviews about Naturelle online so was really hesitant to purchase but they had the best price for a full latex 10" mattress (6" firm core plus 2, 2" comfort layers). I also read a lot of skeptical reviews and comments about them not really being latex mattresses and doing shoddy business because their website does leave a lot to be desired. That being said, I can confirm that the mattress seems to be very legitimately latex (smells like latex) and the quality seems really good. The customer service was also really good and shipping was fast. The reviews I read about it feeling like firm jello are true - and it definitely feels so much firmer than my old bed-in-a-box foam mattress! It's probably a bit too firm for me and am planning to add a topper to soften it a bit. I wish I'd had a chance to try a latex mattrss out before ordering but I live in a small town and this just wasn't possible.

I hope this helps for anyone searching and wondering about some of the above. I know I went down the rabbit hole of searching and reading a lot and wished a thread like this existed. So I vowed I'd write a post once I knew if the mattress seemed legit!

My wife and I need to replace our ~13 year old memory foam mattress and for a few reasons I think latex is the way for us to go. I haven't been able to find any local retailers that carry latex for us to try, so if I order one online I'll be going into this blind. Each of the sites have the calculators that suggest a model based on weight, sleeping position and other preferences. Also, many have salespeople that will help guide you through the process. However, making a buying decision for a mattress that I haven't tried seems like a risky proposition. I really don't want to order, decide I don't like it and send it back only to go through the exact process again. Most sites will let you replace individual layers to get the feel you want, but I don't want to go through that hassle if I can avoid it.

Soooo.....has anyone been in my shoes? Did you get it right the first time?

PS: shout-out to FloBeds. You can order samples from them; I should get mine later this week. They are on my short list.

I was in your shoes. My wife and I went through a few foam mattresses within a year’s time. Everyone we purchased felt great in the store and was good for a few months. After a few months we could notice the support going out and we were sinking lower into the mattress as time went on. Eventually we started waking with back pain and it seemed like every mattress we purchased was shit! As you know mattress are not cheap! That’s when I started some research and learned latex foam mattresses were a thing. I encountered your issue when I started looking for local stores with stock for us to check out the feel of it. Turns out not too many stores carry latex. At least none within a days drive to our house. I was nervous to buy online without being able to see the product in person. I knew I didn’t want to buy another regular foam mattress so I didn’t have much to lose by trying it blind. I found Sleepez.com and ordered a queen mattress from them. I believe they are based in Arizona. It was shipped quickly and assembly was easy enough. I did have a question during assembly. They answered my first call and were very helpful. You are able to select different firmness levels for each sleeper on Queens and up. It also comes with two free pillows. They have a 20 year manufacturers guarantee with full replacement of any manufacturers defect within the first 10 years. They also offer a 90 day return policy with a $99 return fee. That made it a little easier to buy blind online. Worst case I was out $99. The first night felt amazing after sleeping on the couch for a week lol. Joking aside it will be a year in February and it still feels great! No sagging, no wear, and no issues. I’m extremely happy with the latex and will never buy a regular mattress again.

We ordered a medium Sleep on Latex King. It was a touch too firm and we ordered a topper. We love it. And it’s not risky. At least with SOL, they have someone come pick it up and donate to a place of your choosing. But it doesn’t seem like you want to order online. So I just wouldn’t do that as it seems it will stress you out.

Going down the rabbit hole that is mattress shopping. Have searched the sub but looking for additional insight. I'm 120lb mostly front and back sleeper, partner is about 240lb side sleeper, and we also bedshare with our baby and large dog at the moment (not interested in feedback on that choice please). Obviously we are having trouble fitting on a Queen so it's time for a King haha. Looking for:

  • Organic. No weird chemically off-gassing for baby.

  • Latex hybrid with coils

  • Up to around 2k for a King

  • COOL! Partner sleeps incredibly hot. I think latex + coils is good for this.

  • Made in or available in Canada

Here's what I found:

Naturese Hybrid: ~$1500

Silk and Snow Organic: ~$1700

Hamuq Organic: ~$1700

Goldstream M6: ~$1800

Anything missing I should look into? Any recommendations for or against these?

Thanks!!

I have been overwhelmed with all the options available online and also how I can't find anywhere nearby to try anything out! If I Google something like "natural latex mattress showroom" I can't even find anything out about where one might be. I don't even know if I'd like dunlop or talalay better.

I do want to go with something both GOLS and GOTS certified, so that weeds some of the more popular brands out. I think my remaining options include Latex for Less, Sleep on Latex, SleepEZ, and Avocado. There may be a couple I'm forgetting. (PlushBeds!) Looks like Sleep on Latex and Latex for Less both use dunlop only.

Does anyone have advice on how I can figure out where to feel talalay and dunlop nearby? Or on how to finally choose a brand?

One constant feature of latex is that you sleep on top of the mattress, there's no sinking in like with memory foam. It's also completely silent because it's foam. Apart from that it entirely depends on the mattress and type of latex. I've slept on latex beds that felt dead, and I mean dead, like a cotton covered slab of meat; a genuinely creepy sensation though not entirely uncomfortable. I've also slept on ones that felt way too lively and bouncy - that was due to a "drum" effect where the cover was too tight and squeezed the latex inside so that the surface bulged out and became taut like a drum, and that is very uncomfortable. Some people say latex sleeps cool, I'd say it sleeps temp neutral - if you're a hot sleeper you'll still sleep hot on latex but if you're not you won't. It responds well to different bedding though, so some linen sheets will make it sleep cool. The one I have now just feels like a very comfortable, supportive bed with no springs. Not dead but not at all bouncy. Just a nice, firm, heavy block of foam with another very soft piece of foam over it. I'm a side sleeper and it's excellent for side sleep because it contours and supports in equal measure so it will mold around you without letting you sink. It also has fantastic edge support and motion isolation which some latex beds don't. I'd strongly suggest finding a store that carries them so you can try it yourself, just be warned that while it's good to get an idea, trying a few beds in a store will only get you so far. It's actually more useful to think of a type of feel you want for a bed in particular and ask how that might be realized in a latex bed, because one thing latex is is versatile; you can combine it with itself and other bed materials in myriad ways.

How much do you weigh? If you are a side sleeper latex isn't going to be your best bet unless you use a very soft latex layer on top or if you are over 200 lbs maybe and need extra support. Latex is very firm to sleep on. I made the mistake of ordering an all latex mattress from Naturelle in Canada years ago. It had 3 layers, the bottom was firm, the middle medium and the top medium. They should have recommended a soft top layer based on me being a side sleeper and 140 lbs but they said I could exchange the top layer with a comfort guarantee if it was too firm. Well it was like sleeping on a rock. Their version of medium firmness was like the firmest thing I've ever slept on. I couldn't sleep on it without tremendous pain. I had to put my memory foam topper on it to sleep on it and it still felt firm underneath. The memory foam defeated the purpose of it being natural and organic. And the worst part was the company lied and didn't tell me that to exchange the top layer for a softer layer that I'd have to pay to ship the one back and ship the other to me which would have been around $150-$200. That was never disclosed to me when I bought it so I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau but it was never resolved and I sold the mattress later. Then I tried the Purple mattress and a few other memory foam mattresses and most were too firm and a couple hybrids were too soft. I found the best ones were medium memory foam mattresses. I used Casper for a few months and I just upgraded to a bigger mattress and ordered a Silk and Snow mattress as the Casper was still a little firm for me and Silk and Snow is supposed to be a bit softer. We'll see how that one is when I set it up. Although I like the idea of a natural mattress, anything with latex has been too firm when I tried it. Silk and Snow also has a natural hybrid mattress that I tried in a store and it was too firm for me so I ordered their regular memory foam mattress as it is softer for side sleepers. A few other companies have hybrid latex mattresses too but even with the softest latex on top, many people still complained they were too firm so I didn't want to try another one.

October 25, 2024 -

Hi, I want to get an organic/natural latex free of most toxic stuff as possible. I heard about the brand Essentia(Canada) and Avocado Green. Heard good and bad stuff about both.

Lots of review rave about avacado green but I also seen quite a lot of user who complained about it sagging/back pain after 1 year.

So now I'm not sure what to get.

Prefer it med-firm. Something that I can actually get in Canada. I did look up on Costco and they have the Essential grateful 8. I might get that and if it doesn't work out and if not I can return it (I LOVE YOU COSTCO)

Budget: under 5k CDN

looked at sleep on latex but there's not much review so I'm not too sure either.

Thanks!

The Sleep on latex I would consider the best all latex for the price, the Luxerion from Latex Mattress Factory is also priced well although Im not sure they ship to Canada. Both of these as budget options and have less extravagant encasement's, so I wouldnt call them the best overall. Just the best value proposition. The SoL uses a cotton kit stretch fabric and a layer of wool batting for the FR layer, then the Luxerion has a wool quilted cover. Compare that to a higher end latex mattress like the Naturepedic EOS where the while mattress is basically encased in cotton batting and fabric. There is the cotton and wool quilting on top, then cotton fill across the sides of the mattress, and a layer of cotton batting under the coils. I think if youre going for the best latex mattress for you, the way to go would be to find an organic mattress store by where you live and try out the mattresses there. That way you can spend a good 20 minutes in your sleep position to make sure you are getting enough pressure relief out of your latex mattress before making a purchase. Its very common for people to find their latex mattresses firmer than advertised, and people also often find they prefer a latex hybrid. I mean if you are not already certain of these preferences from past experience of course.

Hi all, I found this community a few months ago while researching a new mattress. I found lots of great information and really appreciate the resource you all have built. I wanted to pay it forward by offering my recommendation for this mattress:
https://en.memoryfoamcomfort.ca/collections/organic-latex-mattresses/products/unison-organic-latex-mattress-1

We were a little concerned it would be too firm. I am a 6'5" 230lb male, so not much issue there, but my fiance is smaller and lower BMI and said she prefers a soft mattress. I figured we could always add a topper if necessary so I went ahead and ordered the firm model. Upon first test, we were both still a little concerned it would be too firm - decided to give it a few weeks. Now, almost a month later, we are both IN LOVE with this mattress.

We've stayed at many hotels throughout the years and as we all know the mattresses can be a little blah. There was one hotel, however, that I still remember to this day - the mattress was incredible and I had one of the best sleeps of my life - I still think about it. This mattress feels just like it!! It seriously feels amazing. Tons of support and just the right amount of softness. The pillows it came with are great as well and were a huge bonus. The mattress is extremely heavy which I understand means it will have a long lifespan too. We slipped on one of these in an attempt to squeeze even more life out of it, no issues with breathability or anything, although haven't tried it in the summer yet. Seriously couldn't be happier. Hope this helps in someone's search!!

Needs to be:

  • at least medium firm

  • good for a hot sleeper

  • natural/organic materials

Wants:

  • not too heavy to move

  • made in Canada

I am leaning towards the Silk & Snow Organic but I have heard that it is too heavy to be rotated alone, which is a bit of a drawback.

Once I came across a chart that compared a bunch of the most popular mattress brands including weight, firmness etc, does anyone have that link?

‘Once you go latex, you don’t go back’, is what I have been told by two different salespeople.

Is full latex the be all end all? Worth the hype or over hyped? So many different prices from different sellers which is confusing.
