Is lawn starter a scam
I used them for 2 years. Hated the service. They would damage our wooden deck lattice with the weed trimmer in order to work as fast as possible and even cut into our gutter drains and wooden fence. I would get weekly requests through text for other service that we didn’t need like bush and tree trimmings. They charged for high grass fee and I have pictures of them cutting it that showed the height was not tall and got a refund on it. The first year, I paused service from December through April since the grass does not grow at all during this time and when I resumed service, the contractor first skipped a week saying he had Covid (which was fine but I got an email about the skipped service the following day) and the next week he canceled on me because “I paused my service during winter”. I cut it myself instead and without notice, Lawnstarter sent someone else to cut my grass the same day. I came home to some random man on a mower and asked him what he was doing and I told him that I literally cut the grass that morning. It was obvious. He left and I got refunded. Some weeks they would not show. I moved service to every 2 weeks since once a week was a waste of money but if they cancel a service, they might not be back for another 2 weeks and that risked a high grass fee or a letter from my HOA. PSA: Lawnstarters is a Scam Operation
Lawnstarters sounded like they knew what they were doing because they have a fancy phone app and a website, so I blindly signed up for it. That should have been the red flag. In my experience, legitimate lawn care services make paying them harder than actually mowing the lawn myself. Every service always hung some sort of bill on my front door knob that would always get blown away, then they would call me about an overdue statement but of course they only take check or Spanish doubloons or some shit. Hey everyone first time posting on Reddit. I’m looking for lawn maintenance in the Raleigh area. When looking at google the company lawn starter caught my eye. I put my basic information in for a quote and received a call about 10 minutes later. Initially the worker seemed nice. However, when it got to the portion where they need card information to set up a start date I informed him this is why I didn’t finish set up online as I had fraud on my bank account and am waiting for my replacement card in the mail. He kept asking if I had a debit card which I kept repeating that is the card I am waiting on in the mail from the bank. He continued to ask for a credit card. At this point I was skeptical and told him I do not have a credit card. I’m glad I said that because then he continued to ask me if I had a sister or husband that I could use their card to start the service. I’m not sure if he was just desperate to make a sale or if this is a scam. If anyone has used them please let me know. If you know of any small lawn service businesses in the Raleigh, NC area please also let me know as I try to shop locally when I can!

Google shows mixed reviews (not to mention I’ve seen bad reviews get removed for companies reviewed on Google). Also not seeing any reviews on Yelp (sometimes companies remove their profile from Yelp if they’ve had a lot of bad reviews, but I can’t say that is what happened here.) If they’re starting off poorly with you, I would go with your gut feeling imo.
