Loose lay vinyl install. What does it really need?
Karndean loose lay vinyl flooring to be DIY installed next weekend. Any installation tips or do’s/don’ts from your experience with this flooring?
It's super easy to install, just make sure you get a tight fit next to the baseboards and doors.
A countour guage is very good to have for threshold edges, as well as a Dremel tool to cut more complicated bits. And a combo square to do your scores for snapping planks.
We worked center of the rooms out, after picking a plumb line that "felt" centered, as our space wasn't square.
We were very fastidious about cleaning every spec of dust off the floor. The day after it was down I noticed one plank was telegraphing a small bump. Luckily the product is easy enough to pop up individual planks and there was a little pebble like just a couple millimeters, so Swiffer and vacuum constantly and only wear socks if you can, no pebbles can hide in your shoe treads.
It's been awhile since we put it in, but I think you need to acclimate it inside for a week? Should be in the product sheet.
Otherwise it's very easy and we learned a fair amount from the karndean videos on YouTube. I've done a click lock lvp floor before as well, this is much simpler and feels far more solid underfoot, none of that weird hollow step feeling.

I removed the previous glued down sheet vinyl that was from the 90s.
I've been scraping up the residual glue and paper from the felt back the previous vinyl left behind.
Room is 10x12 at best. Kitchen.
I was going to glue down the new vinyl but multiple people keep saying I shouldn't bother and just loose lay it and shouldn't be bothering with all of this prep work I'm doing either.
The nail holes aren't bad but I was going to fill them but have been advised that that doesn't really matter either.
The instructions for the sheet vinyl said for me to prime the floor and I have been unable to find the primer needed.
The vinyl is from Lowe's. Just the cheap carriage point design.
How much prep would you do if you were me?
