August 21, 2025 - Maybe I'm reading the article incorrectly, but it seems this is an announcement about terminating 221 employees. While it is certainly bad news for those people on an individual level, I wouldn't call this a "mass layoff".

And I just signed an offer for a new job at another company a couple weeks ago and I start Monday! I’m incredibly excited about this new company and the 5 months off (with a paycheck or severance for most of it) worked out perfectly for me. I didn’t have to touch my severance payment. All of that to say, there is life after a Cisco LR and it can be pretty bright.

Just got layoff by Cisco, my manager doesn’t know which HR is going to take care of my case, and doesn’t know what the package is. Is it true? It’s funny that another team member is survived even he can’t speak proper English….just because he likes to kiss the mgr’s ass lol. Somehow I understand as mgr always likes to have someone that they can control regardless of the performance.

Inefficient managers and reduced meritocracy are killing all companies right now. Also killing the good employees who want to do their best work and cut any bullshit and politics. It's time to bring back open hiring , no referral bullshit hiring.

Just got laid from Cisco. I had no idea I would be impacted it was completely silent. Just got into call with manager, had to hear a script from the manager. Asked to sent out a email. I had whole bunch work planned out for next 3 quarters.
Job security is a joke nowadays.

Cisco is an interesting company. They seem to be constantly going through a layoff cycle. Job listings continue to be posted while layoffs are happening. They really do come across as a non caring employer.

Cisco is so fucking disorganized. My uncle worked there for 20 years and got laid off last year. This year they were like: “Oh, we made a mistake, do you want to come back?” He couldn’t find another job at his age and was facing early retirement due to typical ageism in tech. So—of course—he went running back to Cisco. I hate to say it, but it’s probably only a matter of time before they lay him off again. Same thing happened to my friend at Meta. After 7 years they laid her off—and it destroyed her spirit. A year later they were like: “Oh, please come back to Meta.” Only to terminate her again when they did the last round of mass layoffs. Now her spirit and self-esteem is completely destroyed.

Same shit different day- I feel bad for their employees, working their ass off, the stock price goes up and they want to keep their investors happy. Bay Area's Cisco reveals $10.3B yearly profit, thousands of layoffs (sfgate.com) Meanwhile, in order to keep said profits, Cisco support and engineering continues to tank in talent.

I have friends there, they don't even know who is being laid off yet for the most part. But yeah 12% in a year equates to an epic fail by the executives. The worst part is that those who made the decisions that got them into the mess, won't have any penalty, just make others suffer.

They are mature and operationally tested Starting the move away from standards-based networking fundamentals in certs in favor of product knowledge. It's been a long time coming.

A lot of employees are reporting on blind that they were laid off after Cisco had a good Q4 results. Security BU had over 300+ impact, Webex/Collaboration , Wireless, Meraki etc. Cisco did a similar one in May after the Q3 announcement. These days, it is done silently after the last fiasco when the news of the layoff leaked via Reuters. All laid off folks should apply for unemployment.

Lost my job - I was a Collab CSM on the commercial team. My manager plus half my team got let go. I know that layoffs come with the territory of working for a massive tech company during an election year… I’m mostly just upset with how they handled it. There was a lot wrong with it but the actual notifying of being laid off was atrocious. It was one big webinar we were all invited to… we couldn’t see the attendee list of who was in the webinar, we couldn’t turn on our cameras, couldn’t unmute ourselves, and couldn’t use the chat. It was just so impersonal and we all deserved so much better than that… especially since we weren’t being fired because we did something wrong and all of us had been there for a minimum of three and a half years.
