New La-Z-Boy, since the last 20 years or so are no longer built that way. About 20 years ago they totally changed their manufacturing methods utilizing computer controlled routers and cutting all the parts out of sheets of plywood. The machines can cut the pieces quickly and in a very precise and consistent way. The precision cut pieces are much easier to assemble into furniture. The benefit to La-Z-Boy was greatly reduced labor and therefore assembly cost. Unfortunately, the plywood kit frames are not as durable as the original solid wood ones were. I know these details because I was a part of the project as a vendor. This method has subsequently become the industry standard in high production manufacturers. September 4, 2023Looking to get a La-Z-Boy power reclining sofa with remote. How reliable are their power reclining sofas? Is about $3,000 a good deal?
We bought a couch and loveseat from them. The frame broke on the bottom of the couch and the store and warehouse gave me the run around. Complained on their Facebook page where they asked for my details to help fix my issue and then blocked me within 5min. Never did get anyone to look at the couch since no one would get back to us. Terrible service and shitty couch that broke after a year. Looked pretty but crappy build. More on reddit.com

February 19, 2024La-Z-Boy — Lower Quality Worth it for High-Backed Sofa?
I do not like their chairs but the consistency of family buying them is predictable. I cannot identify the difference in quality over the year, and if anything thing it may have improved some. Their sofas and loveseats are absolutely better than their old chairs from what I can tell. Worst thing I have seen is I had to tighten some nuts and bolts under one for a family member not too long ago. My father had one that had completely sunk in after like 20 years of use but all the mechanisms etc seemed fine. Luckily steel is relatively cheap to manufacture with. More on reddit.com

No, they’re very bad quality now. I bought a nice looking leather reclining chair and sofa from them about eight years ago. After three years, the “leather” started peeling. They both look like absolute garbage now. Their service is also non-existent. I tried to have them fix it under warranty but they blamed it on me, claiming that I must have used a cleaner on it (I did not) or that I had greasy hair (???). I had, however, purchased their extended warranty, so I contacted the company that ran the extended warranty who also refused to fix it because they said it was a manufacturer defect. So they don’t stand behind their product or their extended warranty. Terrible company. I’ve always had a very high opinion of La-Z-boy sofas and recliners because as a kid my uncle had one and I always thought it was the best couch ever, so comfy and cushy.
I’m about to buy my first set (the brooks series reclining sofa) as an adult but was curious on this subs thoughts/opinions.
IMO way better and not that much more than rooms to go or Ashley. I kinda think those places make cheap furniture.
Any thoughts/opinions or do you have any brand alternatives?
Edit: We ended up going with la-Z-boy! We shopped around about six or seven other places, and the couches did not feel anything as comfortable as the lazy boys

I know the home decorating folks hate recliners, but my parents had La-z-boys, and we have them. My son inherited his grandfather’s chair. I don’t think I could enjoy my life half as much without them. But! It used to be getting them reupholstered was cheaper than a new chair. Not true anymore. We were going to reupholster our twelve year old ones, but it was just as much as buying new ones.

I'm looking for a power reclining sofa that has sections wide enough for me and my partner to fit on so we can cuddle. We've been to Bob's furniture with no luck, the sofas there were alright, but we weren't happy with the colors or materials given to us, and we've look online at West Elm and Pottery Barn, but their local stores don't have reclining sofas on the floor. Which is why yesterday, we went to La-Z-Boy and found a sofa we really liked. It was the Roman Reclining 2-seat sofa with remote and lumbar support controls, we were able to choose the fabric (a grade C fabric) which is great.
They price it like this: $4299.99 (original price with fabric of choice with power reclining option) then they add a 30% discount bringing the price to $3009.99. Then they add $200 (for remote) bringing the total to $3209.99. Then they added another 15% discount bringing the total now to $2,728.49, and with $200 for fabric protection and $139.99 for delivery, which makes the total $3,068.48.
My questions are:
- Is about 3k a good price for a 85" wide sofa with a remote power recliner + lumbar support?
- Are you usually able to negotiate on the price a bit? Even though they've already added discounts.
- Is La-Z-Boy a reliable brand? How long do their power reclining hardware last?
- Since I'm buying local instead of online would returns and repairs be easier?

I'm going to follow this to see what others have to say as I'm looking at almost the same purchase. I have to say, I was pretty disappointed with all of the reviews I have been reading, esp regarding customer service. There just doesn't seem to be much in the way of mid-priced reclining sofas with any sort of reliability, but I'd be happy to be corrected on this idea.
