Get the biggest you can afford, or actually the biggest you can move and lift out of the oven. I have a few but the one I use the most is the 13.25qt. Plenty of room to make enough for a weekend and leftovers, as well as fit a large pork shoulder in. Family of 3 More on reddit.com

Depends on your intended use. I bought the 6.75qt oval in order to cook briskets and longer cuts of meat. If you aren’t trying to fit something with an odd shape in your dutch oven, then get the round. More on reddit.com

Posted this a few days ago about wanting a DO for my wife. Settled on getting the 5.5 qt but haven’t pulled the trigger yet as we’re traveling for the holiday (and loading a 15 lb box into to the car with my amateur wrapping job would tip my wife off). Saw that Sur La Table and Willliams Sonoma have 8 quarts on sale for $300 opposed to the 440 they normally go for.
I feel like I have to get the 8 quart now because it’s too good of a buy to pass up, but any negatives to going too big? I can figure out storage and what not later and weight isn’t really an issue for either of us. I would just feel silly buying a smaller DO for 70 bucks more than this one.
Thoughts?
UPDATE: Upon further review…..it’s the oval oven that is $300, not the round ones. I’m going to pass and get what I originally planned, but just in case others were curious

Does anyone love that 8qt oval? I am tempted by that price and that shape is better for stuff like whole chicken and long roasts. They have my color. Do I need it, probably not, but at that price it’s affordable for me. Is the consensus that it’s too big to be that useful?
