5.5 round dutch oven. Workhorse. If you have a big family, go one size bigger. Save your money for the enameled cast iron. Don't be swayed by the siren-calls of stone wear and nick-nacks. Buy the most appropriate size dutch oven you can afford. After that, a round skillet, ideally of a size where the lid from the round dutch oven fits the skillet - you'll never need to waste money on a non-stick skillet for the rest of your life. I have the silicone sleeve for my long handles, which I love, but I’m now looking to buy the silicone handle grips for my DO’s as well as the magnetic trivet. Wondering if these are worth buying. Also thinking of buying some salt & pepper mills, but not sure if they are worth the splurge.

3.5qt braiser and 7.25qt DO. Absolutely my two most used pieces bar none. I don’t own them but I think a certain amount of leakage is inevitable with any sort of mill. I mean, they have an opening in them by design so that the ground salt/pepper can fall out, right? So you’ll always have some particles that are smaller than the opening that will fall out when not in use. The ways I mediate this personally, are: -Give the mill a firm shake after I’m done grinding so that any additional particles get dislodged into my dish rather than the counter. -Tighten the dial as far as it’ll go to reduce the amount of particles that can get through when not in use. Then when I need to grind something, loosen it back to the desired setting. -Keep my salt and pepper mills on a little tray or dish for the inevitable couple of particles that make it through. Empty and rince it once in a blue moon. Are the LC mills that much better than other mills on the market? They’re probably a little bit better. But not twice as good as $20 mills and not 4x as good as $10 mills. With LC, and especially outside of cast iron goods, you have to accept that a lot of what you’re paying for is the name and the look. More on reddit.com
