for context, I have a big Staub (I got it on sale and realllllly leaned into justifying it as a breakup present to myself). I love it. I've also cooked on friends lodge enamel. You're not going to go wrong with lodge vs the French stuff, it's all great cookware. The lodge is certainly the better deal but with the French stuff, you're paying for insanely high like heirloom quality, warrantees and guarantees that most people will never use, and stuff that's made in a country with reasonable labor laws. If that's appealing to you and you can swing the French price tags, go for it and enjoy it (your kids will too as long as you take care of it). Your dinner isn't going to be any different in the lodge though. Hope that helps! Answer from George__Hale on reddit.com

June 15, 2020 - Cast iron is a poor conductor of heat, you wont get good heat distribution/conductivity like you would with copper. I normally perform these test under 2 minute interval, but because of the way the material is, I increase the duration to 3 minute. So Lodge vs Le Creuset Skillet, at the time of this article, Lodge is only 12 dollars and the Le Creuset is 140 dollars, what a difference.

r/BuyItForLife on Reddit: BIFL Dutch oven: Le Creuset vs Lodge
November 24, 2022 -

I've been wanting to buy a dutch oven for some time and always balked at the price tag of a Le Creuset, $420 nowadays! These are considered the be all and end all of dutch ovens and also have lifetime warranty to boot.

Then I'm looking at Lodge and I can now get one for ~$80 (with discount) and since I have a few Lodge cat iron items already, I'm torn. Lodge quality is indisputable, but the price difference on the two seems too big to be just due to hype etc. Lodge admits the enameled cast irons are made in China, but they say to extremely high metallurgical standards. Not sure about warranty, what I can find suggests it's also lifetime.

Any direct experience with these two items and recommendations? I'll pay the hefty price if necessary, it is BIFL after all!, but still like to spend less if possible. Thanks!

Cast Iron Conundrum: Le Creuset or Lodge?
January 20, 2017 - I wanted to make a large batch of caramelized onions (because they are absolutely delicious and why not make extra?), so I chose my 5-quart Le Creuset braiser to complete this task. It is perfect for caramelizing onions because of the large surface area and depth, helping contain the volume of onions. If I completed the recipe as written in this particular braiser, it would have been thinner and cooked faster due to the larger size. However, this recipe fills a 3-quart braiser or 10 ¼ inch Lodge cast iron skillet perfectly.

November 8, 2016 - I will definitely keep Lodge in mind when I can actually afford to go buy new kitchenware -- at the moment our only cast iron is a good, heavy cast iron skillet. Unsurprising, but nice to learn that my biases are true. When you get to the core of it, you are talking about the quality of the iron (pretty universally the same) and the quality of the enamel. There's no good reason in this day and age for Le Creuset to have any kind of enamel technology advantage.
