Etc, etc. Personally, on veg-tan I have been using Aquilim 315 a lot lately because it's water based and doesn't have the harmful VOCs that Barge or Weldwood or other "traditional" contact cements do so I can use it in my small indoor workshop without killing my brain a little at a time. No. Hot glue is just melted plastic, and once it cools, it's basically just a layer of plastic; it's more of a way to hold an object in position than a "glue" as such. Cooled hot glue will easily pop off under even minimal pressure. Woodworkers use Elmer's wood glue to stick leather to wood, like for a desktop.
