I just bought the MX a couple of months ago for my Tacoma. I went with the MX so I was able to build a platform over the wheel wells and a pullout for all my training stuff and still fit the kennel in. It works great. I got the windoors with screens, as everyone says the ventilation is great.

August 15, 2022 - Based upon the reviews/comparisons that I have seen online, I am leaning towards the Leer 180XR. The fit and finish of the Leer appears to be a little better and the ARE appears to be more prone to leaks.

ARE MX: pros - dealer right here in town (IMO good to spend $ locally), company has reputation for standing behind product, has nice center handle which is good if have trailer attached. cons - some opinions that it doesn't look as good on the Frontier as the Leer, has a really stupid fake window on the front top. Does anyone own either a Leer 180 or A.R.E. MX cap? They look close to the height I need and both have dealers near me. The websites and salespeople are non-commital about the dimensions.

I have the ARE MX because at the time SnugTop did not make a hi-liner like I had on my 1st gen Tacoma at that time. Shell has been fine since 2006 and now is on my 2010, but I like the quality of SnugTop better and they are local to me.:chug: ... Cost around 1300.00 with custom paint and took about two weeks from the time I ordered it. It is a 180CC model which is thier heavy comercial brand. Does have the light inside and I like the double handle locks. ... I have had my ARE MX on the Tundra for just about a year and am very happy with it.
