Linux is wonderful, until you encounter driver problems :D This is an exert taken from the linked forum post here : Use a Windows PC to upgrade the docking station firmware (see https://support.lenovo.com/au/en/solutions/pd500180 ) BIOS: turn off the Secure Boot option Download and install the DisplayLink drivers for Ubuntu (see https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/ubuntu ) Follow the troubleshooting procedure for the latest Intel iGPU Linux drivers (see https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1181623-displaylink-ubuntu-driver-after-recent-x-upgrades ) Reboot More on reddit.com

Hey folks,
i have a dock 40af for my Lenovo T14. Now i have the Problem that this laptop is in MDM by my work. The 40af needs displaylink drivers where are not installed on this machine, now it detects usb, power and network but no graphics.
Is there any solution to use this dock without displaylink drivers? Because i can't install these drivers by myself and my company does not allow drivers where are not in there catalogue.

October 14, 2023 - I have a Lenovo ThinkPad 40AF docking station (Hybrid USB-C with USB-A dock). ... Monitor 1 is integrated within the lid of my laptop. Monitor 2 is connected to a HDMI-port directly on my laptop. Monitor 3 is connected to a HDMI-port on the docking station. Monitor 4 is connected to a DisplayPort on the docking station. In Linux Mint, I do get all 4 monitors working by downloading and installing (the apt/deb package of) the proprietary drivers published by Synaptics.

Thank you for getting back on this here with us and sorry to hear that the steps suggested did not work. Please proceed with these steps below:
Open Device Manager
Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers
Do this on all the items or drivers listed under Universal Serial Bus controllers:
Double-click on the driver and see if Power Management tab is available
Uncheck the box next to Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power option then click OK
Close Device manager then test if still issue persists

Hi guys,
I have a 40AF dock (https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/pd500180-thinkpad-hybrid-usb-c-with-usb-a-dock-overview-and-service-parts) and I can't get my monitor working. My ThinkPad is a P14s Gen 2 AMD with Linux. I tried both HDMI and Displayport for dock to monitor connection.
The firmware of the dock and the laptop is up to date.
The same 40AF dock works fine with a T14 Gen 1 Intel with Windows.
Is this dock incompatible with the P14s Gen 2 AMD? Is it a problem with Linux?

Well, here I am, with a Thinkpad L15 gen3, a 40AF docking station, and the same issue. I don't even know if I will be able to send my docking back to Lenovo to swap it for a different one, or for a refund. I'm not willing to install the displaylink driver, also because it seems that it's going to lag and malfunction.

April 4, 2022 - Thunderbold security has been switched off in the BIOS as well. Interestingly, the dock does not show up when running boltctl list - although I had to disable thunderbold security. I guess this is where the "hybrid" comes in. DisplayLink drivers have been installed from here.
